There was a trend for a while of pub chains doing silly names: Newt and Cucumber was another. The Goat and Bicycle, The Case Is Altered, The World Turned Upside Down are three of the strangest I’ve been in/seen. And I always smile when I see a certain pub in Blakeney. I always wanted to stop at the other end of the town and ask : “Is the Cock Inn far?”

Oh dear, it's a wonder it wasn't closed down , haha
There used to be a pub / bar in my neck of the woods called The Painted Wagon, long gone now though.
Might not be the funniest but try saying it after you've had a few.
I'm in the ....

The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn
I've always liked the one in Stratford upon Avon, on one side of the board it's The Black Swan, on the other it's called The Dirty Duck.
The Bucket of Blood - Hayle
The Hole in the Wall is quite a common pub name. I've enjoyed a pint or three of real ale in this one many times:

(It's in London, very close to the main entrance to Waterloo Station)

Closer to home, this pub (which is a lovely little boozer in Bury St Edmunds) would appear to have a racist name:

but the pub sign makes it clear that it hasn't:

Some pubs have two names. This one in Norwich (which I can also recommend) is officially known as The Gardeners Arms but nobody ever calls it that:

Similarly, the King's Head in Laxfield, Suffolk (which is utterly superb) is never called that. It's always known as The Low House:

I really must get to Portsmouth one day ;-)

. . . and Dublin:

Some great ones here:

I came across 'The Grinning Rat' in Ipswich, Suffolk.
^^^ I've been in there, Naomi!
Really? Any idea why it's called that, Chris?
oh two nbames
the Fish and Duck at cambridge was usually shortened to "The Dish"

Corscombe had the Silent Woman
The local saint - St Jugbertha or WInifreda had her head cut off by her er devoted husband. The sign was a headless woman holding her head in her hands

Pierrepoint when he want hanging people ( ie most of the time) ran a pub called The Last Drop ...
I think it was just a trendy name that the owners decided on when they wanted to change its image, Naomi. Although it's an old pub, that name is fairly new. It used to be called The Olive Leaf.

(It's also closed down at the moment, after its licence was revoked earlier this year through drug-dealing, under-age drinking after hours and violence. However the owners are hoping to re-open it soon: https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/grinning-rat-might-reopen-1-6201902 )
Christ, I think it's a brilliant name. Someone has a great imagination.
>>> Pierrepoint when he wasn't hanging people (i.e. most of the time) ran a pub called The Last Drop

That's a myth, Peter. The real name of his pub carried far greater irony ;-)

There used to be one called "The Wonkey Donkey"
But it closed a couple of years ago. It was a really weird pub. It was like going into a really old lounge in a house.
The barrels were on a table and there was all settees and arm chairs around.
I've always thought The Old House At Home quite a weird name for a pub but i've been in at least 3 by that name.
Near me there's The Gate Hangs Well; The Swan With Two Necks and The Labour in Vain that had a very controversial pub sign showing a little black boy being scrubbed in a bath by a white woman
