I have suddenly lost the sound on my desk top computer - it shows " no audio component connected" with a red cross on the speaker sign at the foot of the screen but the light is "on" on the speaker. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

I would see if there where any updates installed that are causing the problem. Try taking it back a restore point and see if the speakers work. The amount of times this little bug has caught me out. I think the 'tech' people are busy eating their eggs LOL Good luck Aya

Try rebooting the PC, sometimes mine does this when at bootup it has failed to load the sound drivers.
Do not do system restore for something so minor. If rebooting doesn't work try checking that the speakers are actually plugged in to the back of the PC properly.
Sorry forgot to mention, also try updating the drivers
I don't mean a full system restore, just using the last restore point. It is what I try first without too much chaos-but I am by no means any good at solving PC issues.
System restore is restoring to last (or earlier) restore point.
I would check the obvious thing first. The message is telling you that the speakers are not plugged in. The light on the speakers means they have power, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are connected to the computer. It would also have helped if you mentioned whether the speakers connect via the audio out sockets, or via a USB connection.
