Is it possible to turn off/hide the 'People you may know part'. its bad enough having all these names show up on my laptop but on the mobile it is a nightmare getting rid of them

But apart from that stopping any given person popping up, no, AFAIK, 'cos I looked myself as it is just annoying, you can't

Install a handy plug-in to your browser that will hide the "sponsored" box (of which the "people you may know" is a part of. There are many options to choose from. Here's what I use - it's called "Fluff Busting Purity".
