Nokia lumia 710 mobile

Have looked at vodaphone site but unable to find answer to the following.
Wish to update software update as mobile suggests...is this just a case of putting in USB cable to PC tower and following on PC screen instructions?
please can anyone advise.

Hope this will also prolong battery life...have turned wi fi off but still not making that much difference...any suggestions please...thanks

Lo. If this helps, I bought Lumia 710 3 months ago, & so far there has been no updates for it, last checked 03/06/12.
The best way is to download Zune software onto your computer, with the phone connected with USB cable you can click on phone then fnd update in the left hand column. I have to warn Zune is a bit odd to say the least, its very dark & not too easy to fathom how to use, might be better if your 12 years old!!!!.
Re battery, turn off location & bluetooth if not using, also set screen timeout to 30 seconds. Mine lasts about 3 days that way but of course less when I use items on the phone. Hope this is usefull. NBH.

Mine is lasting 3 days...battery life so that sounds about right then.Perhaps am expecting too much! Don't wish to keep turning bluetooth on and off so have it on but the wi fi is off but hasn't made that much difference since turning it off.I have had 2 notifications to mobile telling me that software udate is available and will enhance battery and general performance but just wanted to know exactly how to go about it.Someone did tell me not to touch Zune.

Zune is the software that Nokia suggest downloading, but it is not too good or as easy to use as it ought to be.

Be very careful of popups recommending software for battery life, a lot of viruses around stating the same, I had one that was running my battery down by turning my screen on every few minutes when I wasnt using it, thus confirming the need for the new software.

To RATTER15...thanks....I will leave it.Was only going to do it if it genuinally was going to help...my previous one...xperia had to be constantly have downloads but it seemed to make no difference to the performance of mobile.
How often would software need updating and how do I know when to do this and how?

The lumina 710 comes with windows phone 7.5, which is currently the latest version.

Windows phone 8 (which the lumina 710 won't support) is due out in Autumn of this year and then windows phone 7.8 (which the 710 will support) is due out shortly afterwards

So realistically the next update for your phone is going to be around October/November of this year as long as current release schedules are kept to.
