Hammond Organ help

Quite unsure if this is the correct section but hey ho!!!

I have just got hold of a Hammond 2 manual, 13 foot-keys organ which is in pretty good nick as regards the console and so on.

However there is one niggling problem in that one - and only one - of the upper manual keys seems to be making a bad contact and as such if you press it the note keeps breaking up and sounds 'rough'.

Does anybody know if getting to the contact mechanism of the key is a) recommended, b) easy and c) beyond the capability of a dumbo like me??

Thanks for any help

That's like asking if it's easy to change the spark plugs in your car's engine - it's a piece of cake if you're a mechanic!

How much is the organ worth? Is it a B, C or A, or a spinet?

I think its a spinet - from info on

http://www.drawbarcit...our_hammond_organ.htm

but that doesn't mention 'B,C or A'
Sounds like an L-100 or similar, so probably worth a few hundred quid at most. That said, I'd still get a professional in to fix it. Chances are, it will take only a few minutes...

My son had a Hammond organ; he played it a la Charlatans rather than a la Bach. He had a repair done by a gentleman called Harry Chester. This was his phone number. I don't even know if he's still around. You could try it. 01492 596708
