My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

I like the smell of a barbie if its decent stuff being cooked but round her it always smells like cheapo burgers and sausages unless its me, then its fillet steak, chicken tikka and king prawns.
Jno in my lawn, if its green it can stay.
Glorious day, everywhere is very dry and dusty though. Even stinkier bbqs today....grrrrr. I poured tomato food around the drain, thought it was the Jeyes. I must have had too much sun, lol.
My 'lawns' are the same jno, so much moss, it's very bouncy.

Hehe woofy, so I can't employ you to fix my garden tap then ?

Last Vera tonight.

It has been a lovely day hasn't it. Just what the doctor ordered.
I got stuff washed and out on the whirly and murdered more weeds.I don't know where they all come from.
I had a conversation with the dog next door over the fence and gave him a chewie .He's so comical .I sat there on the tete and every time I look round he's standing up at the fence looking hopeful.
I'd better buy some Bonios .
Luckily no smellie barbies here today. I hate the stink of them.I think some of 'em round here cook old socks on them by the smell of it sometimes.
I watched Line of Duty.Lee Ingleby is in it , and will catch up with Vera later.
Night all.
Shaney my two would love to live next door to you...bonios over the fence would be their idea of heaven.

our neighbourhood seems to have acquired dogs since the last time we were in the garden. At least two of them yelling at each other quite loudly. I don't know if they live in the same house, but I hope they're not like this all summer.
Morning all
Quite a drop in the temperature out there today. It's brightening up though after a cloudy start. No gardening today.
Lol Woofy I'm a soft touch for a cheeky doggy grin. He's a sweetie.Lovely natured little dog and so friendly.
Hope you're all ok .

oh thats a pain Jno. I think the other thing to keep in mind is that two dogs yelling loudly and continuously at each other is not usually a sign of two happy and relaxed dogs. It doesn’t lessen the noise though :( Its a nice morning here and I should be doing stuff which I am not. I have just told an elderly drive tarmaccer that the bits of our drive which aren’t jointly owned are owned by us as individuals and as I am one of the owners, I can confidently say that he won’t be asked for a quote. He was one of those people who can’t say anything just once but I think I stayed polite.
Morning Shaney, you snuck in. One of my ex regular couriers used to bring the dogs a biscuit each when he delivered. My garden gate is like a stable door so when I was in the garden, they used to stand on their hind legs and get biscuits and fusses over the gate.

Mor...sorry, afternoon. Much chillier here too and very windy.

Lots of the local dogs recognise me, I'm afraid I often speak to them first before their owners. :) So many people round here have dogs but none next door. When my old neighbour was here and I had Charlie I used to have to keep a bit clear at the bottom of the hedge so he could sit and peer through. He never understood why the patterdale who lived there wasn't remotely interested in him. Unrequited doggy love :)
Good day. I've been sorting my clothes, what a mess, Mr N came home for lunch, took one look at the floor, bed and spare room and went out again!
Email received!
I feel a bit sick today. Went out for coffer and brueh d what I thought were croissant crumbs off the seat and shards of glass embedded in my hand, there was blood everywhere. One of the locals had a plaster. And I still had to pay for my coffee, can you imagine what would have happened if I had just sat on it, the eyes water at the thought.
Oh I like Lee Ingleby.
oh Neti that is nasty. We have done bits and pieces today..pottered in the garden, done some cleaning, pulled stuff out of the freezer ready for Sis to arrive tomorrow. We had a fairly active weekend and poor Shughy is exhausted. He’s so tired he doesn’t want to settle unless I do...if I move he staggers around behind me all bleary eyed.
Good morning biddies. Youd soon be broke if you fed bonios to my neighbouring dogs, there are 10, (3 at the bottom, 3 at the left side, 2 at the back and 2 at the right side.)and always one or two barking! Hate them.
Lovely sunny day here,,getting house ready for hija as she arrives on Good Friday. Mr N will have to move back to MY room, but ive now taken to sleeping on his side as I can get to comfort the cat easier. But hija will be moving out into a shared flat soon!
Having tooth out tomorrow!
Shaney have just seen on BBC breakfast that The Crown was the most expensive show ever. £100m an episode. Even the copy of the Queen's wedding dress cost £35,000! I have yet to see it, but I will.
Morning all
Nice bright day but on the chilly side .
You must watch it Neti.I thought it was an expensive production.I didn't realise how expensive though. The clothes, cars and settings are all very sumptuous.I think I read somewhere that it had been considered by the BBC but they turned it down because of the huge costs.
Hope you're all ok
Morning...hope the puta lets me finish my post today, kept crashing yesterday so I gave up. I've not felt too good since Mon afternoon, something just hit me, nothing specific, I just feel lifeless and aches and pains big time. Maybe the change of weather, it's so chilly, or the full moon....woooo.

Hope you're all ok.
Good luck today neti, hope it's painless. Oh, at last, poor Dom had to hit rock bottom, literally, to make him come to his senses. I guessed it was Hanssen who left the leaflet, he doesn't miss anything.

Better quit while I'm ahead... puts in cosmic order for a new computer
Morning all. Tooth gone in and out in 15 mins and have 3 stitches which have to come out next Wed. But I was dizzy so they made me sit and wait and then I called Mr N to collect me and he brought me home. And the good news is she can save my another tooth instead of extracting it.
Yes Robi I finally liked Dom again, but missed the end as cat was crying. Will try to watch it again.
Oh wow Holby city is already on YouTube and I can watch it on big TV. That Isaac is so horrible, typical abuser, always blaming the victim, I remember that feeling so well, can't ever forget it.

good news about your teeth, neti. Save all of them you can.
Afternoon all
Not all that cracky weather wise.Chilly, cloudy but brightening up a bit now and I think it was some rain.Just gnat spit really. We need rain round here badly.
Well done Neti.I bet that's a relief.
It's ye olde weather Robinia .I was in a t shirt on Sunday and today I'm in a jumper and cardi. These fluctuating temps do my brain and body in.
I watched that prog about amazing hotels with Giles Coren and Monica Galeti They were in a hotel in Africa which is in in the middle of nowhere in Kenya and people get up at the crack of dawn to feed the giraffes which come along and put their heads through the windows for the food.It was lovely ,they've got such sweet faces.
