My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Hello all. Migraine morphed into stomach ache. Weather is improving though.
Good afternoon. Oh poor woofy.
Normal day here but chilly. Mr N is cooking something stir fried. That's all folks!
Good luck jno jnr. Tarquin's done that and many more besides. Some of the pics give me a dizzy fit.
Speaking of which, I'm with you woofy. I was getting ready to go to the shops when a massive zig zag migraine hit me very suddenly, it didn't even start small and grow. It's been years since I've had a full visual one like that. Left me dizzy and nauseous with a horrible dull ache so that put paid to my day. Pee po belly bum...
I think its the weather Robi. Until a couple of years ago, I had had 2 auras and one migraine in the whole of my life. I blame global warning or brexit or something.
wishing Jno jnr a successful day. I don’t do peaks. Or troughs.
Evening all
Not a bad day although it didn't really brighten up until late afternoon.
Picky came and mowed the lawn for us and I fiddled about behind him spraying weedkiller,so that merited a spag bol and he's just gone on his merry way home.
Hope you two poorlies feel somewhat better now.I get those ocular zigzags from time to time but it goes quite quickly if I sit still.
Nothing doing here otherwise .I hope Jno Jnr's climb went well and that he got back safely.
The only climbing I do is up the stairs to bed.

with my wonky knees (hit by a car years ago) I can climb approximately one flight of stairs. However, jno jnr has made it in 11 1/2 hours but says he is exhausted, so I'm very pleased for him.
Good morning all.
Firstly Robi did you see Holby? I was gutted! And poor Ethan!
Got a phone call at 1.30 this morning, hija has "mislaid" her flat doorkeys so she had to sleep here dor the night, we are trying to contact one of her flatmates as she needs to get in. Apparently she told them i had mislaid them!
Well done jno jnr, how is he at breaking into first floor apartments?
Hello biddies. We sorted out hija's trauma and she's now back at work.
We celebrated by having a drink in the plaza and then a taster menu, was delicious and I am stuffed. Am going for a siesta as am so tired after last nights kefuffle.

we went down to the woods today and found 8 million bluebells (their counting, not mine) lovely

I remember when Box Hill was like that. We used to get a green line bus out there on the bank holiday and pick bluebells. Stomach ache morphed back into migraine. Am bored with this now.

I don't think you're allowed to pick English bluebells now, they're protected, but the nasty Spaniards you can do what you like with.

I overspoke, there were only 4 million of them in the wood. It only opens one day a year; they try to time it for the bluebells but they've had to move it from May to April as they bloom earlier, and they said they were past their best today, so they're thinking of moving it forward another week. I don't know, I think this was an unusually mild winter that brought them out; it might not happen again.
Good morning. First of May, no more bonfire allowed yay although greasy bbqs are allowed if not near trees and not charcoal.
An uneventful night apart from the talking/ yowling cat all night, drove me mad.
I remember we used to go to Abbott's wood as kids and bring home armfuls of bluebells.

I see the weather here is going to be fine all the time we're away but light rain again the minute we get back. I can't work out if it's trying to be mean to me or to sis, who is going to the Canaries at the same time.

quiet in here...
Evening. I've been to nose surgeon and been signed off. He said that I didn't recognise him when I was prepped for surgery and wouldn't let him near me until I was knocked put. He stayed out of the way! I remember thinking it was Dr Valentine. Then Mr N and I went for a lovely lunch and that was me knocked out for a couple of hours with the wine.
I won't be on for the rest of the day as Mr N wants to watch the footy on WiFi TV andbour signal just isn't strong enough for the two. Grr.
green house is now coming tomorrow as the sipping address had the wrong postcode on it. Carrier tried to deliver it to postcode on paperwork and of course couldn’t find my house. Bit of a mystery how they got the wrong postcode as i bought it through amazon so I didn’t tell them my postcode, amazon did.
