Don't know about that. I would hope that if I bought something like undies that I would get a nice new shop bag and not have to put it in my supermarket bag along with my tatties !
I assume you're not in England. You can always decline the offer of a bag
We don't have to pay....yet

I am not moaning about the 5p for a bag as the money goes to charity,i was just wondering.
We will introduce a 5p charge on all single-use plastic carrier bags in England in October 2015. There is already a similar 5p charge on single-use bags in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

paper bags are 5p too..even Mcdonald bags for take away ...although you will get a small bag to put oopen chips in but not for boxed burger...
taking a gift bag is a good idea, ask for a gift receipt as well
fluffy I had to pay for bag in M & S for clothes AND in food hall...

I remember when I was wee my mum always had her shopping bag, dont think there was carrier bags then, but I think I remember paper ones which always tore.
I'm in england though murray - we'll start getting charged next oct
Slinky....why couldn't you use your big Tesco bag in any of these places, or anywhere else for that matter ?
I think it's psychological really, you spent money on a nice piece of clothing - you don't want to drop it into an old Tesco or whatever bag that may have had leaky yoghurts or meat products in it.
One of my friends wive's used to shop in Tesco, decant all the stuff into M+S bags, so that her neighbours didn't see her carrying what she thought was "common" Tesco bags out of the car boot and into the front door !
