creating a shift roster in excel

trying to create a new shift roster, keyed in the start/finish time, calculated the hours worked per day, [ok so far] when it adds up the week [eg 9+9+8+0+8+8+0] it gives 18 as the total.

The zero is days off, different days on different weeks. Cell format is hh:mm. Clearly missing someting here. Date on start & finish is the same day. Any ideas please? Thanks

Format the result cell as [h]:mm rather than hh:mm

with it formatted hh:mm the result will roll over back to 00:00 every time 24hours is reached

Might be stating the obvious,b ut have you checked the ranges are correct for the addition. What formula are you using for this?
