This urban myth has been running for decades Phil aimed either at the drugs manufacturers or charities, cynical attitude and worrying that people still believe it. I will say that of course not every charity is run as efficiently as it could be,but one would need to analyse the accounts of each one to determine which those are. Do that if you have the time.

I doubt it.
Tosh
so they wouldn't get anything from selling the cure?
No
A deeply offensive idea - both to the charity and to people who have cancer - if anyone honestly believes that then I despair of them.

I doubt there will ever be a single "cure for cancer" anyway - it's not one disease but many variants bracketed under a single umbrella title.

If we cure breast cancer there will still be testicular cancer, if we cure that there will still be pancreatic cancer etc etc etc.

All i see is the money collected goes on everything except research
Poppycock.

Why do they need so many highly paid office staff also ?
I must say though, that an extraordinary amount of money is raised for cancer research, but then when promising treatment has produced, the NHS can't afford them. That doesn't sit well with me.

Thanks for your replies
People have to be paid the market rate for their job. No one can afford to work for nothing, or be expected to.

Do you think the charity needs investigating just to be sure ?
Where exactly do you see that then, philkool?

If you can be bothered to read this (as opposed to tittle tattle) you'll see that over 70% goes directly on research, about 15% is used to generate more income/donations and much of the rest is used on awareness campaigns.

I thought the idea of a charity meant those who run it worked for free plus maybe expenses ?
There are "charities" that seem to exist solely to provide well paid jobs for their senior staff - with little or no money being used for the charitable purpose. Cancer Research UK *isn't* one of them.
Question Author
Thats what they say but where is the proof dave ?
my sis was a research scientist for ICRF..she said don't give us money it is not going on research..but to pay high flying admin and PR ...
ICRF are now Cancer Research UK - whilst I can't dispute a personal opinion, their accounts look pretty clean.

Question Author
I think the money raised should go on treatment not wasted on finding a cure.
