Can someone explain why Jehovahs do not celebrate in any form.

My granddaughter had a party and invited her classmate who's mum declined on the grounds that they were Jehovah Witnesses and did not celebrate such occasions.

My granddaughter was put out as this girl is among her best friends and was disappointed she could not come.

Sounds stupid to me, but what do I know!?!!!

I wonder what wild debauchery goes on once the doors of the Kingdom Hall àre safely secured?
No to both questions, Sharon.
I don't subscribe to any religion, but still celebrate Christmas or any feast where one can eat and drink. If JWs don't want to, that is their business.

I don't even mind the door callers, a long as they take the courteous hint that we're not interested. You have to somewhat admire their devotion to spend most of their free time having doors slammed in their face.
All I said was that piece of Halibut was good enough for jehovah - and they stoned me to death - but I got better though.

That's true wildwood, they're very persistent and dedicated to their beliefs.

I don't care what religion anyone is, but don't try and convert me. It will be a waste of your time.
I can't quite fathom out why so many people have a real aversion to JWs.

I am an atheist by nature but am willing to listen to religious talk generally to point out the innacuracies but that's another story lol. And oh boy can you do that SOoooo easily with Christianity (in all it's forms).

However I spent a lot of time talking to JWs and they are thoroughly descent people. They work hard in life and work hard for their God. They are at heart Christians and like all religions believe they have it right and all the others are wrong. Even so their missionary work, although persistent, is rather low key. The way some go on about them anyone would think they were in league with IS or something.
OG has it right here !
For those who do not agree with beliefs may feel free to celebrat. In all fairness, though, you should recognize our freedom to refrain.

Out of the thousands of families in Israel, what kind of parents did God choose to raise his Son? Mary reveal that she was a spiritual person who had a good knowledge of the Scripture

We learn what kind of people we need to be to enjoy Jehovah’s favor. We do not need to seek prominence.

Responsible childbearing requires parents to consider a newborn baby not as a plaything but as a creature for whose life and future they are accountable to the Creator.
When they bring a child into the world, parents must be prepared to take on a big responsibility and adjust accordingly. They are embarking on a 18-year feeding, clothing, health-care, and education program, with the end result unpredictable.

So happily, a great many Christian parents have raised children who have become faithful, dedicated servants of Jehovah. Proverbs 23:24, 25.

Give it a rest goodlife....
The Plymouth Brethren are much stricter than the JW's. They too don't celebrate birthdays & Xmas. They wont eat with anyone but themselves & the women & girls all wear small headscarves & all the females have long hair. TV, radio & newspapers are not allowed in their houses.
Goodlife...you are just making an excuse for treating your children badly. Personally I think its cruel.
A bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses have been knocking on doors in my street this morning. I didn't see one single person answer the door !!
VIv.....never, ever answer the door to them !
I made the mistake once some years back (because I thought they were someone else) and trying to get away from them was almost impossible !! I won't make the same mistake again ......
Melv, there are two separate groups of the Plymouth Brethren. The group you're referring to are the Exclusive Brethren. The Open Brethren (my uncle was one) are less strict.
One of my friends at BT answered the door to some a few years ago, in the nude.....he reckoned it was the only sure-fire way of getting rid of them !
Mmmm good idea (lol) ....
^ I've always figured something must be motivating all that door knocking.
This was the leader of the Exclusive Brethren. Not a very savoury character by all accounts.

My sister worked with an Exclusive Brethren adherent. He would throw away his meal if the shadow of another person fell upon it.

Always wondered how he ensured that a shadow of a farmer hadn't ruined his food.
