A five year old boy in the USA who was given a firearm (marketed as 'my first rifle') and live ammunition as a birthday present accidentally shoots and kills his two year old sister:

Tragic, shocking, entirely preventable and woefully predictable are some of the ways I could use to describe this event. However, since this is the R&S section, I want ask how people (both religious and non-religious) feel about the girl's Grandmother who said the following:

“...It was God's will. It was her time to go, I guess. I just know she's in heaven right now and I know she's in good hands with the Lord...”

I wonder what present this type of parent gives to a 10 year old?
^^ probably a get away car!
Ratter, //I bet these people still look both ways before crossing the road.//

Ha ha! Very Good. :o)
Religion preys upon the cognitive dissonance associated with traumatic experiences. This episode is demonstrates the bizarre consequences of that mentality.
A lethal combination, God's will and the 2nd Amendment.
If everything is God's will then people should never be punished for their crimes. God has given us brain and also has given us the knowledge about right and wrong. According to Islam God does not will that a person should commit a crime. Yes he knows it would happen. These are two different things. As for the little girl, yes she would go to paradise as all of the children are innocent.

As for the gun crimes in USA, one just has to wath programmes about Preppers. I watch them and certain things these people are doing makes me laugh.
Words fail me. And that doesn't happen very much.
keyplus, what is your pronouncement on the little boy?
zebo's observation - "A lethal combination, God's will and the 2nd Amendment." sums up this tragedy perfectly.

For some unfathomable reason, a significant part of the population of the U.S. still retain the 'frontier' attitude of their ancestors, when guns were necessary to protect homes and families.

Even though it 2013, large numbers iof gun owners still hold onto this mind-set, and believe their children should be edcuated in firing guns at the earliest opportunity.

If the family happen to be extreme Chrisitans, as in this instance, they have a convenient responsibility abdication which will see them through.
""The little Crickett rifle is a single-shot rifle, and it has a child safety," -

Now that really does beggar belief! Arms manufacturers are making guns designed to be fired with live ammunition, with 'safety catches' for CHILDREN????

What drugs are these people taking!!!!
the ridiculous thing is about these bible belt areas is, i wouldnt be surprised if the judge will agree with the grandma and be very lenient on them ...

either the grandma is extremely deluded and genuinely believes that - and its giving her 'some' comfort to think that ... or she is very calculating and knows her and her family are in big trouble, and so is trying to garner public support and thinks that saying stuff like that will make them seem less guilty and incompetent.

what kind of god would put a two year old on earth then have her get shot by another child and take her back?

i think sometimes god must be a nasty drunk, and he has woken up this morning thinking "oh Sugar, what did i do last night?", haha.
It's people like this who give Christians a bad name...............

It seems to me that the USA is a third world country, it may have 1st world technology, it even has 1st world infrastructure.

But its conduct towards its people, is beyond reprehensible. It openly cheats in its electoral obligations, as discussed in its press, it allows the democratically elected majority to be side-lined for, bought for officials by companies with vested interests.

It allows its people to die for want of medical aid, because some rich people don't wish to pay more tax, which also keeps the poor in poverty.

And for no good reason that i can see or understand they allow ordinary citizens to own guns, with any attempt to check it disabused by bribes, lies and downright chicanery.

Vulcan42. ////keyplus, what is your pronouncement on the little boy?////

I may disappoint you there but my pronouncement on the little boy is that he is completely innocent. He did what any other child would do, used his toy. Now if that toy was a real gun then it is not the fault of the child but the parents who gave him that. Any other question?
Keyplus, Would you care to commit yourself to letting us know which bits of behaviour god pre-ordains/controls and which bits are subject to human free will. Surely god must have seen that allowing a 5 year old access to a lethal weapon would allow the 'free will' to become dominant. So was it just a godly experiment or did he want the little girl to die for his own unknowable reasons. Either way it doesn't look very responsible or even kind.
That has nothing to do with this question. Post another one and I will enlighten you on what is and is not covered under free will.
How convenient for you that you don't feel obliged to answer a question, as ever.
Thank you keyplus, at last we have found something we agree on, it wasn't the fault of the boy.

Thanks for your observations everyone. It would appear that we're pretty much all in agreement on this one - the grandmother is a loon and the idea of giving firearms to children is quite literally insane.

Sharingan – great post [06:58 Fri 03rd May 2013].
