If there really is smart life on another world, why don't they make an effort to contact us?

Very much more than likely. But I don't think we have a chance of ever finding out and we spend too much on space exploration. Better things to think about trying to keep life on earth going.

Our planet is 4.5 billion years old and homo sapians are 300,000 years old. Modern man is perhaps 10,000 years old. So for the existence of most of our planet, it didn’t have intelligent life.

There are an incredible number of planets. And life might exist for only a brief time on any planet. I reckon that life of some kind exists on most planets at some time. I reckon it does (or has previously) existed on our neighbours in our solar system. Which is why we are sending probes and bring back soil samples from the planets we are currently able to reach.

If there is intelligent life out there, they won't know we are here.

The distances are so huge, that any observation of earth would probably show dinosaurs here.

If we find microbes are Mars, it would be change everything.

Given the billions and billions of other galaxies (we are less than a pin point in space) I find it inconceivable that there cannot be something else out there.

Yes, I think there is intelligent life elsewhere - and I think we’ve been visited in the ancient past.

It's highly probable that there is life out there - we should not assume, either that it has a physical form which is apparent to us, or that it 'communicates' any any way we can comprehend.

We acknowledge that ants communicate using scent, so how much more alien - pun intended - could the communications of any alien life form be?

The possibilities are well beyond our imagination or understanding.

Absolutely. There must be hundreds of million planets in similar positions to Earth around their suns and fully capable of life. Who can really blame them if they don't want to contact humanity? As a whole, humankind is a toxic species.

Of course, our culture and art educates us ti think that aliens will be humanoid, smaller than us, and possibly hostile, a la War Of The Worlds.

Hollywood enforces another cliche - dinosaurs must be grey, and roar a lot. But what if they were really multicoloured and squeaked like mice?
