i would expect that the company will want to see proof that the funds are going on a computer and not just spent anywhere by the employee

why not try your local independant computer store? I cant see any large retailers accepting a cheque that isnt signed in front of them. The local store are more likely to deal direct with the company.

yeah maybe, but i was hoping to fing out which major electrical stores do really.... thanks for your advice, i didnt think of that
well how about getting the company to open a business account with pc world?
Won't the company be issuing the cheque in the name of the employee i.e. the store is irrelevant? The employee will need a bank/ bui;ding society account to process the cheque.

the company i work for says that if i find a pc, they will issue a chq to the store. hense needing to know which stores will accept a chq. for example, i see a pc for 399.00, then i go back to work, tell them about it, then they issue a chq to PC world for 399.00.
One not telephone one or two local stores, explain what you have told us, and see what they say.
speak to your employer and explain that most companies are highly unlikely to accept a cheque from someone not present.

as i said, there are 2 ways to do this. get your company to open a PC worl Business account (PC may even be cheaper that way but allow for vat) or ask a local supplier to deal direct with your employer.

hmmm maybe, but does anyone actually know if any stores will accept chqs first ?
call the local store and ask.
small businesses do take cheques, but some large stores may not now, like supermarkets.

find your local store here http://www.pcworld.co...ld-store-locator.html
i am confused - if it is your friends work, why would they buy an interest free computer for you?
