Me & the wife have just been to our local Sainsburies store in Prenton on the Wirral. Talk about jumping on the credit crunch bandwagon. Sainsburies Turkeys were on sale for £50 yes £50.I approached the manager to ask if that was a mistake, he just sniggered & said no, in response I left my basket of shopping & replied "I wont be trying anything different, but I will be trying somewere different" thieving capitalist b-------. if you see this posting elswere its to make fellow AB ers aware of this scandal

Morrisons were the same price this morning.
Even if it were a small turkey of 10lbs, that is only £5 a lb and you can pay a lot more than that from a butcher.
I think that is a more realistic price to be honest - but if you want cheap turkey imported from Poland, I'm sure you'll find it.

I've just checked the Sainsbury websit and a large turkey 8.2kg is £40
That is £5.88 kg or £2.68 per lb.
That seems ok for a frozen turkey

Ha, you try buying kopsher or halal tukeys...even more pricier!! x

Jesus wept ..fifty quid for a bit of dry old meat .No thanks .
I 've never been a lover of turkey even if it is the traditonal Xmas dinner .There is no way I would pay that ...anywhere ..even if I was feeding the five thousand .
I get twitchy when I have to shell out a tenner for a bit of brisket :))

Any thing feed on grain will cost more due to the years weather conditions.....that is probably why pasta,bread...even pet food, has gone up so much. Unfortunately the farmers see little of the increases...the supermarkets need to keep their profit margins... :-((

I don't buy any meat from a supermarket and haven't for years.

Don't forget I remember when chicken was a luxury, as was a joint of beef.
Turkey used to be so expensive it was a treat to have it at Christmas.
Prices have been artificially low for years -no wonder there is so much poor quality food around, and turkeys bred and raised in Poland under the Bernard Matthew brand.

so what is the 'right' price for a turkey? If you don't like the price, don't buy it. I don't like the price of Rolls-Royces, so I haven't got one. The world doesn't owe you a turkey, or me a Roller.

i think you will find that the price is about average, and nowhere will be much different, maybe as we get closer to christmas the price may drop slightly but dont hold your breath
