Ben and Jack decided to play tennis against each other. They bet £1 on each game they played. Ben won three bets and Jack won £5. How many games did they play?

To expand on my answer, Jack has to win 3 games to nullify the wins of Ben and then 5 more to win £5 net, so 3 + 3 + 5 = 11.

It depends on one's interpretation of the question. Does winning £5 mean he was £5 up and the end, or does it mean there were 5 times when he won £1 ?

This is the sort of ambiguity that school teachers like to include in their questions to pupils.
