grim if clue was stern
^perhaps a printing error?
Prow( stem of a boat)?
Stern - Grim
Not an error- it says 'Stern'
Only showing four letters in clue and letter pattern.
Doh
Clue - Stern , Answer - Grim
I do it sometimes with an 'rn' combo resembling an 'm'
It is written as STEM above. That is why I suggested that there might be an error.
said stern in my copy. ;o)
Ok then, fitzroy has probably copied it down wrongly. Easy to do!
It is, as I say I do it too - they seem to run into one another in print.
Specsavers?
Thank you for BA, fitzroy.
Can no one else understand me ? - 'rn' -RN, 'm'- M.

I know I am partially sighted but they do look very similar and hence an easy mistake to make.

Specsavers no good to me sadly.

Many thanks for all the replies. The answer was grim as the letters r and n were joined together so closely that I read it as M the word was STERN and the answer GRIM many thanks to all who replied.
I know what you mean, mamyalynne!
Sorry to sidetrack your thread Fitzroy.
Only pulling your leg Lynne. Done it myself especially whern the print is small like in Saturday's Telegraph GK.
