Today I trekked up to Cambridge in the bleak, frozen North.

I met some pals and we had a punt.

On the river. Not on a horse.

Did that once I hope you enjoyed it
Bleak and frozen? When I left Cambridge it were all sunny warm and lovely!

Hope you enjoyed your day out and didn't get too wet. Last time I went punting some moron rammed me and I almost fell in, was so angry at him, and he blamed me for it as well. Never went punting again after that.
I used to punt in Oxford jj, they do it from the wrong end in Cambridge :)
I like Cambridge in the summer, less students.
Question Author
I did, Psy. It was jolly.

There was a lot of ramming, jim. Well, accidental. You can go out towards the country, or in towards the colleges. We went in, so I suppose that's the busy way. Actually, it was sunny, but it's a long way "oop North".

Wrong end, Sloop?
Whatever sloop, maybe you should stand at the right end of the boat in the first place!

Question Author
There were lots of visitors, Maydup.

Most of the students who were there seemed to be working on the punts.
the punter was thanks jim, I was the puntee
JJ Please stop knocking the north. You have never been here, where as I have been to Brighton and have seen the pink £ .
Question Author
I wasn't knocking it, Jeza.

Just saying ... Cambridge is a long trek North.

J x
Not 'oop North' JJ, its 'oyt Eeeast, dontcha know'.
JJ, your geography's dreadful, Cambridge isn't nearly North. North from you perhaps, but South of, er, Leeds.
Since when have Cambridge and Oxford 'oop North' - at least it's the Midlands, that grey area between being 'oop North' (north of Ooomber and t'Mersey) and then the 'broccoli-south' of t'Watford Gap and Chilterns over to there yonder Worcester.

Did you get your Grouse JJ?
I live in the North in Bolton and I don't think I have EVER heard anyone say "Oop North" either here, Manchester, Yorkshire or Lancashire!
I live near Leeds. So the Dales are not too far away. Most of the holiday homes in the Dales are owned by the southerners who earn much more than their northern counterparts. So much so that the locals are priced out of the market. It really gets my goat when they knock the north yet come here every summer.
Works the same in many parts of the country, jeza - holiday homes in Wales are not popular either.
"Notlobistan" that town of fame north of Manchester, home to Notlob Nomadic Wanderers and Immigrants F.C.......
Question Author
Geography is more complicated than I thought.

I haven't had any grouse yet.

I'm in London tomorrow, so maybe there.
