Is that the answer or part of the clue?
A plinth
Julia can you be more precise with your enquiry.

Danny have you a link to that??
I thought it was a straight forward question as to what a socle is.
Well yes but which clue in which Lancelot, never mind - well done but have you a link to the definition of the word that leads you to Plinth.
danny, it's SOCIE
Ah, hang on SOCLE, well that explains it, thank you.
I presumed it wa a typo as I do not know if the word socie exists. Mamyalynne the clue for14 down in todays Daily Mail quick crossword is socle.
Well we are either all at cross purposes or is not yesterdays Lancy, sorry Danny was not having a dig at you :-)
Not for one moment did I think you were Mamyalynne.
Isn't there a Socie hall St in Glasgow?
Sauchiehall Street

naughty Sandy
Did you mean Sauchiehall Street?
for those who havn't bothered with the link a SOCIE is;
//One of the posh kids with trendy, adult-approved clothing, good grades and a fondness for weak pop-culture, American, late 70s - early 80s//.
Yes Baldric I did see that but apart from Viz and Private Eye, is rare for a mainstream crossword setter to use the urban dictionary - that may change in the future who knows.
I think this thread has run its course
Silly me, not having the x-word I relied on the OPer, will I never learn?
;o)
