Driving us all mad with this.

Holiday in Rye, went in the car to a visitor attraction on the south coast looking over the  stacks stretching out to sea.

All I remember is that it was some sort of look out or fort/defence. There was a telegraph room and a cafe serving A WWII menu (the parsnip soup was excellent) and playing the songs and music from that time.  The staff were in period costume.

Where were we?

How long were you in the car   ?    Calshot spit castle sounds a possibility but long drive from Rye.Needles fortress also possible, but would need car ferry trip.

Could it have been Camber Castle?

Calshot spit castle sounds a possibility but long drive from Rye.

Needles fortress also possible, but would need car ferry trip.

Not camber castle or Calshot and not Isle of Wight

not Rye Castle itself? It seems to have a caff and people in costume

Was it one of the Martello Towers along the beach by the nature reserve.

How long ago?

No to all of those.  It was possibly a National Trust site.

We could see the chalk cliffs stretching alongside and the stacks straight in front of us (they have a name but I can't remember that either).

On a Dad's Army set?

Question Author

Sounds like it, but no.  It was on the cliff looking out to the stacks and the sea

There are the Seven Sisters Chalk cliffs in E. Sussex

? Seaford Head Fort

Berling Gap  at Pett. In the news the other day as idiots messing about on the edge. Easy drive from Rye.

The only other stacks I can think of is Harry's Rocks but thats far away in Dorset and I'm unaware of any castle.

If there was a wooden bridge going through the entry gate I am guessing Fort Newhaven?
