I am not being funny/racist or anything, but I think the next prime minister should be English.
What do you all think??

Untitled You beat me to it. Khandro - I hear what you say about Sunak’s racial background, but I’m curious - why would that be an issue? Someone’s race is only a component of their identity. When it comes to the ability to do a job I think most people would say that race should absolutely not be a factor. What I’m inferring from you is that the job of British PM should...

sp //Guy Scott of Zambia - President rather than PM and back in 2014, but I think that still counts.//

Oh yes, there were quite a few in history, but they have all been kicked out of office by the predominantly black populations, & the chances of a white person ever being elected to run a 'black' country again are nil, & you know it.

Read back through my posts on this thread & you will see that I'm not talking about skin pigmentation at all & it's disingenuous of you to suggest it.
You're talking about culture, Khandro, and I did ask whether you thought Sunak's religion has affected the way in which he's done his job until now. Also I said that his culture is a very long way from Slumdog Millionaire but you appear to have ignored all that.
n. You asked the question & I answered it at 11:15 Sun.
I asked the question and you answered //Probably, but who's to know?// I would suggest that if you haven't noticed his religion affecting his work, then it isn't affecting his work.

Any comment on the Slumdog Millionaire culture compared to Sunak's culture? You seem to be tarring all with the same brush and that makes no sense at all.
What about someone from Northern Ireland.

now that really would be funny considering Westminster
does not really want to know NI ~ yep take their taxes
etc.

Just a thought :-)
n. Are you familiar with what happens in the treasury on a day to day basis? because I'm not.
Khandro, Why do you suspect that a man born in the UK but of Indian heritage would do the job differently to anyone else? He's been in the job a while now.
Khandro

I'd suggest that it's you who are being disingenuous.

You wrote:

"It matters not where a person was geographically born, what matters is who your parents & ancestors were."

What did you mean by "parents and ancestors" if you're not referring to race?

Are you saying that it would be fine for a non-white politician to run for PM as long a his ancestors were born and bred in the UK?

That would certainly exclude all of them, wouldn't it - effectively making it a race bar.

Also, whether a black country has a white leader shouldn't make a blind bit of difference to our electoral system. The governance of Great Britain should not be predicated on the political systems around the world.

Also - if ancestral factors should determine whether someone can be PM, what about foreign secretary, chancellor or any of the other great states?

And should this be limited to politics?

Sport, religion, the arts, ambassadorships?

Or just PM?
“Westminster

I’m the biggest fan of NI going but I am fairly sure the UK exchequer is a net giver when it comes to our wee country.
I can’t think of any of the eleven (and counting) that meets the requirement - or indeed anyone else
why on earth do you want a white prime minister, the last one wasnt much good - te daah ! I thought I would inject a bit PP humour and lightness into this dirgy dark thread.

oh, and 0 the editor of AB has assured me that in a closed poll of the brightest and best ABers, in the coming Prime ministers election contest, 22% would probably vote labour - - - ter daah again
Zahawi sez he's being smeared - not without foundation IMV.

Surely the 3 (?) non-white candidates are tainted by being part of Boris' administration?
Ichkeria looks like it could be down to you and I,
God help the country if it were me :-)
Or me lol
//Zahawi sez he's being smeared//

I read that, dave, but surely not. The great and good would never do that ... would they? My heart bleeds.
Ich "I’m the biggest fan of NI going "

Is that biggest fan of NI, or biggest fan of NI going (out of the UK)?
Sunak was Chancellor for over two years. Surely he should be judged on his record in office (not good) rather than his parents were born in Kenya and Tanzania.
// Why do you suspect that a man born in the UK but of Indian heritage would do the job differently to anyone else? //

oh god yes please ( do better ) - do better than the current ( is he Armenian or American or both) one in 10 Downing St
That's enough racism for one thread.
Pity that Ruth Davidson isn't able to stand. That would really be a break with the past.
sp; I've nothing at all against Zulus or Maoris, I just don't want one as prime minister of the UK & I don't give two hoots what you think of that, and it is actually what the OP is about.
