“NATOs existence did not deter Putin in the slightest from invading” Er, that’s because Ukraine isn’t in NATO! And furthermore when Putin first invaded Ukraine in 2014 there wasn’t a single tank in the NATO forward area. Not one. It never ceases to amaze how many would slit their own throats rather than stand up for an alliance dedicated to protecting us from …...

As I said above it’s just a load of tosh.

He’s just saying: “fighting bad”
Well who could argue
“Peace nice”
Who could argue
“Military alliances have weapons”
Boo hiss nasty military
And one day when it’s all over (offering no constructive view in what happens until then) we all put our guns away and have a big peaceful love-in.
Again, who’d be against that.

Asked what he thought of Zelensky he said: “I’ve never met him”
Well, how pathetic.
For god’s sake no one tell him Zelensky’s Jewish.

"Asked what he thought of Zelensky he said: “I’ve never met him”
Well, how pathetic." - well Mr Z is not on the Islamic Terrorist funeral circuit.
naomi - // //Mr Corbyn is simply raising a valid point and offering it for discussion. //

Nonsense. He's been banging on about disbanding NATO for years. //

That may be so, but I am specifically addressing the current OP, and the quotes it has listed, and on that basis, I believe my response is valid, and not 'rubbish', based on what Mr Corbyn may have said previously, which is not included in this discussion.
ich - // Asked what he thought of Zelensky he said: “I’ve never met him”
Well, how pathetic. //

What is 'pathetic' - that Mr Corbyn has no particular opinion to offer because he has not personal experience of discussing Mr Zelensky's views with him?

Or is it 'pathetic' that Mr Corbyn has simply not met Mr Zelensky, when there is no obvious reason why he would have done so?
Ellipsis - // //He said we should look at Nato when the Ukraine conflict is finished, and assess it in terms of its history, and look at its validity, and the notion that its existence may itself actually instigate and escalate conflict.//

And what does he suggest for the Russian side of the "conflict"? //

He doesn't suggest anything - his observation is about the validity and future of Nato, nothing more.
Trump wasn't a great fan of NATO as I recall.
"What is 'pathetic' - that Mr Corbyn has no particular opinion to offer because he has not personal experience of discussing Mr Zelensky's views with him? "

Yes, in a word.
'And what does he suggest for the Russian side of the "conflict"?'

He said,

'"I would want to see a world where we start to ultimately disband all military alliances,” he told Times Radio. “The issue has to be: what’s the best way of bringing about peace in the future? Is it by more alliances? Is it by more military buildup?

Or is it by stopping the war in Ukraine and the other wars … that are going on at the present time, which are also killing a very large number of people? And ask yourself the question: do military alliances bring peace? Or do they actually encourage each other and build up to a greater danger?

I don’t blame Nato for the fact that Russia has invaded Ukraine. What I say is look at the thing historically, and look at the process that could happen at the end of the Ukraine war.”'

AH, //...not included in this discussion.//

It is now because I've included it.

//Asked what he thought of Zelensky he said: “I’ve never met him”
Well, how pathetic. //

Not only pathetic - utterly disingenuous. You can bet your boots he has opinions about other people he hasn't met. It's just that Zelensky is on the wrong side of the political divide and so not to Corbyn's taste. Don't forget we're talking about a man who thought East Germany a shining example of the way society should work.
//Trump wasn't a great fan of NATO as I recall.//

Not so. Trump wanted all members to pay their fair share, that's all - and rightly so.
ich - // "What is 'pathetic' - that Mr Corbyn has no particular opinion to offer because he has not personal experience of discussing Mr Zelensky's views with him? "

Yes, in a word. //

I would consider the possibility that Mr Corbyn's comment was taken out of context, and may not have been the sum total of what he said.

This is a common journalistic tool, to make someone appear to say, or not say something, in a way that makes them look bad.

In this instance, Mr Corbyn may have said, when asked about Mr Zelensky, "I have never met him." which he then followed with a twenty-minute monologue detailing his views on Mr Zelensky's situation and that of the wider situation in Ukraine, which of course was not mentioned, in favour of simply cherry-picking one sentence to make Mr Corbyn appear shallow and ignorant to the readers.
Sorry, TCL, I can see nothing about what Russia should do in that quote.

According to the twisted logic, rather than building a NATO "military alliance", America could invade, bomb to smithereens and claim for its own every country in NATO. After that it's not a military alliance, it's all one country and that's OK.
I can help you out there:

He said: “I’ve never met him. I don’t know … I think he speaks well and I admire that.” And that was that.

I think that is awful and sums the man up.
He thinks NATO should "ultimately disband"
Fine, in a world where there was no need for it, and we all want that, but that is precisely why, while he may have commendable idealism, he fails on the leadership score because he has nothing to say about how you get there. He fails to stand up for Ukraine because NATO and America are on their side. I'm sorry to have to say it but it's true. Ask his that he thinks of Nicholas Maduro and I bet you'd get a much more effusive response.

Roman General Vegetius has never been more correct in my opinion. https://www.thoughtco.com/if-you-want-peace-prepare-for-war-121446
Trump was no fan of NATO, but he had a weakness for Putin.
In 2019 Congress allocated $400million aid to strengthen Ukraines military. This money was blocked by Trump who had fallen out with Zelensky.
For the avoidance of doubt I've no time for Mr Corbyn but he seems to be guilty of not doing what others are accused of doing with people in the news, commenting on people they've never met.

Another knot tying session going strong.
"Sorry, TCL, I can see nothing about what Russia should do in that quote"

Corbyn said, "I would want to see a world where we start to ultimately disband all military alliances,"

That would include Russia and its allies.

So much for Hope not Hate,Corbyn hates the Jews,he hates us Brits,he hates Nato,he hates Zelensky. Is there anything he doesnt hate.Perhaps the IRA and the Palestinian terrorists.

But it wasn't included when I posted my response.

My skills are many, but seeing into the future and knowing what you are going to post so i can comment on it, is not one of them.
It’s not all about you, AH.
