Its not about his criminality. Its about the manner in which he died and who was responsible for it - someone trusted to uphold the law. All this together with footage of his death (tantamount to a snuff movie) probably does need to be acknowledged somehow.

I’m hardly part of the TTT fan-club (unless we’re wittering about cars), but I agree that this really is a nonsense.

The circumstances of Mr Floyd’s death were shameful and may (or may not) provoke some long needed changes in race relations in the US and possibly elsewhere too - but celebrating his memory in Parliament is bonkers.
Do they stand in silence when a British police officer is killed on duty?
This is bananas, and completely inappropriate.

I wonder how many of them were comfortable about doing it? If any of them refused to kowtow to this absurdity, as sure as eggs are eggs they'd have been accused of racism.

of course not vulcan, nor when a British army officer is hacked to death by a black islamic nutter.

Yes DD this is now systematic bullying.

As terrible as his death was he was not a Saint nor a Martyr , I believe people in this country are now being swept along in a tide of hero worship , I’m pleased the policeman concerned will face a court of law for what he’s done but this worship of a man that was a thug and a drug taker is beyond the pale now
This happened in USA, why the hell are we kowtowing here??

Maybe the moment of silence should have been for ALL who have died unlawfully in police custody. So...no colour barriers, either innocent or guilty.
If this man had been white, would we have seen the same reaction? Just a thought.
It needs to be acknowledged and dealt with in the country where it occurred, not in the House of Commons where they don't even acknowledge the murder of serving police officers.
TTT - // It's a lowlife career criminal, not Mother Theresa! //

As advised, it's the manner of this man's death, not his criminal history that is the issue.

As I have said before, we don't operate a sliding scale where rights to human treatment are diminished on the basis of how someone has behaved in their past.
I agree with you Tora.

Though the Floyd incident was deeply regrettable, it has nothing to do with us, and Parliament should not be wasting any time over it.
//It needs to be acknowledged and dealt with in the country where it occurred, not in the House of Commons where they don't even acknowledge the murder of serving police officers.//

I agree but as we have seen over the last several days this incident has transcended far and wide resulting in demos, protests and even destruction in many cities around the world. The government can't ignore that.

.....I need a lie down!
There were silences and tributes to Lee Rigby up and down this Country and across the World.

We can't start playing tragic deaths off against another, that's part of the problem - divisiveness.
// Do they stand in silence when a British police officer is killed on duty? //

Yes they do. PC Andrew Harper who was killed last August received a nationwide minutes silence, that included parliament.
^ But he should be remembered in this country, not this lowlife American thug.
Cowards afraid of the race card.
Shame on all of them for kowtowing to the mob. Pathetic.
