The Purge -- Over Half Of Cabinet To Be Replaced

As I type two more ministers, David Mundell and Claire Perry, and Leader of the House Mel Stride, have stepped down from Cabinet roles, presumably because they were pushed -- joining a long list of ministers to have followed Theresa May out today.

A brutal purge, not just of Remain-supporting ministers, but also of anyone who had the temerity to back Hunt rather than Johnson in the Leadership election. Fox out. Mordaunt gone. Two of the strongest Leave supporters you could find right there.

One could presumably forgive Johnson for wanting Hammond, etc, gone -- and even if Johnson wanted to keep him Hammond didn't want to stay -- but a clearout of this scale seems to be a dangerous way to start. The Prime Minister can only govern with consent, and with such a wafer-thin majority (that anyway relies on another party!), creating so many enemies is at the very least a courageous decision.

Quite! Throughout the May era I have always pictured the Eurocrats in Brussels laid back in their chairs, feet on desks while sipping a glass of (tax-payer funded) red wine, while watching events unfurling on British TV & knowing exactly what plans are being made in Westminster .
From now on, I think the posture may be more, edge of seat, wondering what's going on & what's coming next.

Boris's job is to get us out of the EU by October 31st, better for him to surround himself with those in the same frame of mind, than have a cabinet squabbling amongst themselves.

I think you are confusing "America" with the American media, which almost universally displays it's hatred of Trump on a daily basis because he has wisely declared war on them and they are paying a very high price for it. The viewing figures for CNN in the US are now at rock-bottom.
