these ladies have persuaded 10,000 people so far, apparently, to not fly for 2019, this is to do with climate change.

No. It's impractical and unworkable. In 2016 an estimated 3.8 billion people travelled by air so it would take rather a lot to make even a minor dent in that. It simply isn't going to happen. Ridiculous.

i don't fly any more but can't see how this will help matters, don't fly, don't have a holiday, do business, all goes belly up, airlines go bust, yes can see how that will work.
No...and I hate flying. I like my holidays more though so I grin and bare it.
Actually I don't grin. I just bare it.
or bear it ummm :)
i wnt fly in 2019, but i HATE flying
Yes, gladly
I hate flying if I have to I just 'Gin' and bear it.

Ummmmm which part do you 'Bare' ;-D
No I wouldn't because one way or the other it would mean I couldn't see any of the people I love, couldn't work and couldn't move myself forward at all. It may seem selfish but I'm not tat selfish that often so I'll give myself a pass on that x

you see what i am getting at, you can't see loved ones if they are far away, no holidays, no business being done, tourism takes a major hit, everyone loses
i applaud those who care about climate change, but i do think sometimes those who care don't always think things through.
Lol....sorry about my spelling. I can't even blame it on a typo or autocorrect :-)

As it wouldn't make the slightest difference to the climate, no.
Question Author
indeed, i can see their point but its not well put together, suppose one of those 10,000 or more has an emergency and they need a helicopter to take them to hospital are they going to refuse, i think not.
Yeah exactly, I care every much about climate change and other things, but it's not always practical to do everything w could do without things falling apart in other ways x
Thinking about it. If I was to go back to Ireland I could get a coach to Luton (1 hr) then a plane to Knock (1 hr)

Or I could drive from N'pton to Holyhead, get on a ferry, drive from Dublin to Sligo...

Which is worse?
Question Author
exactly my point, all these things have a domino effect, stop flying fine, then nothing gets done. surely one of the biggest problems is cargo, some of what we consume is carried by air, what happens to those people who are baggage handlers, out of a job.
this is all hypothetical of course, almost no one is going to stop flying because a couple of ladies think one should.
Question Author
a ferry out in the Irish sea, not a chance.
So all the reasons for not doing so are more significant than the end of the world ? Short termism at work again.
I've done it many times. My dad wouldn't fly. Too scared.
Yes indeed. We rejected cattle crush flying for a luxury coach. It takes two days to get where we’re going, and two long days back again. Swollen feet and tender botty time awaits.
Question Author
i don't mind flying, just not up to it now.. which is a great pity as far as i am concerned as i always wanted to see the Northern Lights. But that dream has come to an end.
