Imagine if a man had done this on the tube, a bus or in a nightclub, he would be before a judge before you could blink.

The police were so scared of upsetting people they didn't dare arrest him for fear of starting a riot.

That's just how I imagined a London bobby would act, grabbing as many random women as he can and rubbing himself against them in a good natured semi-erect kinda way. Makes ya proud.

andy-hughes, you're seeing something that isn't there, at what point in the video do you see her laughing?
Talbot - //There will be some police, male and female who will be comfortable with this sort of behaviour but some like this woman are not. //

And you base that assumption on what? Her hostile body language? The fact that she used her hands to push the man off, or that she arrested him? None of that happened, because the officer appeared to accept the action for what it was, a drunken man being stupid.

// She did not enjoy that one bit but the police are under pressure to put on a happy smiley face at the carnival ... elsewhere I think she would have had him in a headlock. //

No-one is suggesting that she enjoyed it, but clearly she did did not feel threatened or intimidated either - and I don't think she would have let putting a 'smiley face on for the Carnival' get in the way of shoving him away with a stern warning, had she felt it necessary - which clearly she did not.

In spirit of the carnival maybe? Just ponder if this female was your daughter, wife, sister, girl friend ?
Vulcan - a fair point, but then, none of us can see her expression because her face is out of shot - it is impossible to know from her expression what she is feeling, but her body language does not suggest discomfort or threat.
Everything that female officer did was defensive.

There is a whole bunch of disingenuous posters out tonight.
Talbot - // You only have to focus on the officers left hand to know how she is feeling about this incident.

Watch it and then come back and disagree //

I have - and I do.

What does she do with her left hand? Does she use it to push the man away? Reach for her nightstick, gesture to her colleague? No - she uses it with her other hand to put her hat back on! Not, I am sure you will agree, the first action of a woman who believes she is in the middle of being sexually assaulted!
anna - //In spirit of the carnival maybe? Just ponder if this female was your daughter, wife, sister, girl friend ? //

Along with others, you are trying to change the situation into something it wasn't?

Would I like my wife or daughters to be treated like that? No - but if they were professional police officers, I would accept that they dealt with it in an appropriate manner, as this officer did.

No-one would excuse an assault on any woman - but this was not an assault, it was a reveller having a little fun with a police officer - inappropriate, but certainly nothing like an assault.
Her body language is that she is tolerating it- and no more. It's worrying some of you can't read that.

Yes - she used that well-known police tactic for fending off an attacker - she put her hat on!

I have to ask you the same question - are you sure you are looking at the same clip?
well frack me ! this bonking thread has lasted a long time -
you're all still er hard at it
//There is a whole bunch of disingenuous posters out tonight. //

Yup..........Strategic tolerance.
pixie - //Her body language is that she is tolerating it- and no more. It's worrying some of you can't read that. //

Exactly.

The whole thing lasts a few seconds, then the man lets go, and walks away laughing.

I would suggest that had it gone on any longer, or he had stopped smiling, or he had touched the officer inappropriately, you would have seen a very different outcome.
Togo - You mustn't wind them up, they are very very very cross (on someone else's behalf, who clearly doesn't need it!)
She's laughing too- you can tell that without even seeing her face.
You really are useless at following a thread aren't you, andy?
You're that intent on telling others they see something that isn't there yet you can't see what posters actually post on a thread.

I haven't mentioned sexual assault once on this thread. I have said try what this bloke has done on a normal saturday night out and you will receive a different reception.

Go on ... another 8 paragraphs of why you are right .....
Had this " incident" happened on a busy high street would the outcome be the same? Let's not forget how many people have actually viewed this, she looks intensely uncomfortable .
Nervous laugh, pixie.

So what's the difference with this, both uninvited sexual advances.

Brace yourself anne brace yourself

.... well said anne, well said.
I'm going by exactly what I can see in this video. Not "if" it was somewhere else, "if" it was someone else etc etc. "If" it was- the man may have acted differently anyway. You can only go with what is actually there.
