Can someone with a legal background throw some light on this please?
A teenager murders a 7 year old girl in cold blood, the 7 year old girl is named, the family is named, the whole terrible incident is described on the news and front pages, yet the murderer cannot be named for legal reasons, whats all that about?
Can someone please explain it to me, no doubt she will plead insane, or something similar, and be out in a few years with a new identity, new home, protection etc, to lead her life whilst the victims family are just left to get on with it!!

Mamy, it won't make any difference to me personally nor to many who have commented but the law always appears to safeguard the guilty and not the innocent. why?? If old enough to commit a crime of this nature then they should be treated like any adult who commits the same crime. That is just my personal opinion.

The teenager in question is only 16 she may have been 15 at the time of the incident.
Do you not believe in rehabilitation?
She will be punished and serve the time the courts see as correct and proper!
If and when she is convicted then the judge may allow her to be named.
She will be named after she is convicted - not before.
She has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the prosecution have accepted this.
If this is the case in point, she has admitted what she did - I'll await what the court decides.

Rather like the child killers in Lincolnshire, this teenager will not be named because of her age.......until sentencing, and possibly not even then.

I rather think that there will be similarities between the two cases....

This was not manslaughter, this was a murder of a 7 year old girl!!
Islay, rehabilitation? Do me a favour, so then, she was 15 at the time of the 'murder', if she does 20 years she'll be out aged 35, the 7 year old victim will always be 7 years old, don't talk to me about rehabilitation!
If the victim can be named then so should the perpetrator!!
So you don't want a discussion then you just want to rant!
OK so what do you want? To see her hung drawn and quartered?
Ahh.......Righteous Indignation gussied up as an interest in how the legal system works...
Jamie Bulgers killers got new identities and a new life in Australia, Jamie Bulgers mum will never hold her son again, his murderers parents will see their sons.

they should have been behind bars for the rest of their life, another case where the victim is treated worse than the perpetrator.

Hasn't she admitted it and said she thought she was a robot.

Dave.
She has pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge. She should be named now. Too much pussy footing around using age as an excuse not to name and shame. She shouldn't be protected, commit this type of crime then face the consequences whatever age.
I do hear what some of you are saying - but in what way would knowing this teenager's name make you feel any better?
Because it means she gets off lightly compared to her victim Mamyalynne.
Oh?
Lets light those torches boys and lets have a lynching!!!

Maybe hang on until the lawyers and medical experts have done their jobs then you might have a name to note down.

For myself I send all the strength I can spare to the grieving family.
I don't need the teenager's name.
I'm not sure quite how my knowing this troubled teenager's name will help me sleep more safely in my bed.....

I'm sure we'll find out the name when she becomes a victim of another deranged individual.

I doubt she'll stay in one piece wherever she ends up.

Islay, you have missed the point completely!!
What I have been trying to say is, if the victim and her family can be named then why not the perpetrator, the victim was 7 years old!!
I was NOT asking for a lynching or for her to be hung drawn and quartered, just fairness, if fairness is the right term!
I wonder how you'd feel if, heaven forbid, it was one of your family that suffered at the hands of this murderer!
