The Conservative Party's former chief strategist, Steve Hilton, has called on Theresa May to resign over cuts to police and security services.

This also comes at a time when a former chief inspector for the Met and by the former head of special branch in Belfast have both slammed May's cuts to the services as damaging Britain's security:

I mean, obviously she isn't going to resign. But do you think it's fair to hold May to task for this failure?

somehow I keep reading that these attackers are known to the police, they've been reported by neighbours or fellow Muslims (just as everyone insists they should be) for radicalising kids ... and yet nothing happens. Nonetheless, all May's fanboys insist that this couldn't possibly be anything to do with the Home Secretary, who has what is laughingly...

Ah, so they are careerists.

Retired careerists.

And to think I almost took their opinions seriously.
look mate we all know that no amount of plods would have prevented the attack and the plods we had shot them dead in record time so it's clear that the reductions made no difference.
Question Author
Except the police already knew about them because they'd been reported. In each of the three attacks.

Theresa May was warned explicitly two years ago that cuts to the police and security services would put the public at risk. She called it "scaremongering."

It looks like she was wrong.
Quite right, TTT. Even is every other person on the street had been a plod it would have made no difference.
hang on kromo so are you now saying that extra plods would have prevented this?
I watched Cressida Dick, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police on CH4 tonight. She was asking for more resources, along with other Police forces in Britain.

It is completely counterintuitive to suggest that Britain is safer now, than in 2010, when it had 20,000 more Police Officers.

May was instrumental, when Home Secretary, in that progress of reducing police numbers.

CH4 produced figures tonight that showed that in all ways, Policing in London, including armed Police reduced over her years as Home Sec.

She must now be asked why she allowed this to happen.
allowed what to happen?
Can we clear this up, kromo/Mikey would 20000 extra officers have prevented this attack? yes or no.
TTT...yes, of course I am politicking....and you aren't ?

But is Cressida Dick politicking as well ? I hope you are not going to suggest that the Met Police are angling for a Labour victory on Thursday ?

I don't know, we're not privy to how the security services operate.

Considering that all these people (Westminster, Manchester, and LB bombers) were known by the police, it doesn't strike me as impossible that the resources to monitor them could have stopped them - especially in the case of the Manchester bomb as his bomb was so elaborate and he appears to have been part of a network. I just think it's remarkable that these individuals are suggesting that resources are a serious problem caused by the government and Tory supporters seem intent on ignoring them.
TTT....if more Poilce had been on the streets of London, especially armed Police, they might have been able to reduce the toll of deaths and injuries. But Islamic terrorism isn't the only crimes being committed at this time.

The public, of all political persuasions, want to see more visible Policing, not less. May and the Tory Government of the time, savagely reduced police numbers. They were wrong.

I repeat, its plain daft to suggest that Britain is safer from crime, with 20,000 less Police.

Dick is doing what they all do in this situation, she is trying to get more resources, like all public sector empire builders. Have you ever heard an official in any public sector role from the local park keeper to the the first sea loard not ask for more resources at every opportunity?
Question Author
That's true, divebuddy, and I could of course be wrong (it is always tempting to grasp at easy solutions to horrible things). But I do think there needs to be some form of accountability as May has had counter-terrorism squarely in her remit as home sec for the past 7 years and did not heed warnings that her policies could prove dangerous.

Kromo....Mummy knows best !
Can we clear this up, kromo/Mikey would 20000 extra officers have prevented this attack? yes or no.

Sorry 3T I thought I had answered. I don't know.
TTTI don't know for sure either, and neither do you.

But if some of those 20,000 Police had been employed on surveillance duties, keeping a better eye on known Islam extremists, then they can't have done any harm, can they ?

And when an attack occurs, then more Police are needed, which is the situation we are in today.

Whatever way you look at it, less Police resources doesn't make sense.

Ask the people in Britain, that are trying to go about their normal day-to-day lives, whether they would prefer to see a much beefed up Police presence on our streets, or would they like to see less ? I know what I would say.
come on show some back bone:
Can we clear this up, kromo/Mikey would 20000 extra officers have prevented this attack? yes or no.
-- answer removed --
I will answer for them; no, it's just a stick to beat the Tories with , you know,Labour, the party of Laura Norder (not).
