/// AOG is a master at it, which is why is why I tease him when he does it. ///

A few threads back you criticised me for baiting you, is the fact that you have now admitted that you tease me just the same, only a little more childish?

At lease when I bait you I do so whilst keeping the thread on track, whereas your rather silly 'SO' rule does not.
No I'm not over sensitive, AOG, but if you listen to Irish music Irish people often refer to themselves as Paddy's.

I'm sure people from Pakistan wouldn't be offended by the use of P*ki. It's just that at a time all brown people were referred to as P*ki's. That's where the offence is.
Isn't 'I tie' (how I worked out it is said!) just a shortened form of Italian and used as a description of where they come from rather than as an insult? Maybe not used as much these days, but as with the P word meant as a way of describing the person not necessarily in a derogatory way, which you can do without using any specific words eg that f***** idiot.
My grandmother used to call my grandfather an 'eyeti' when they were arguing - he used to get so mad as to him it was a full on insult - He was not Italian!
AOG - //At lease when I bait you I do so whilst keeping the thread on track, whereas your rather silly 'SO' rule does not. //

Fair enough - I'll do a deal with you -

You stop starting a response to me with the word 'So ...' and then following it with a post that shows you either haven't understood what I have said, or you are just ignoring it and saying something I didn't say, but you wish I had said, and then replying to that ...

and I'll stop teasing you about it!!

How's that?

/// but that is why black people like to own words that are used to denigrate and offend them on a regular basis. ///

And what words do we own that are used to denigrate and offend us on a regular basis?

Thinking about it though, don't you own the sole right to be called by your surname?
ummmm

/// I'm sure people from Pakistan wouldn't be offended by the use of P*ki. It's just that at a time all brown people were referred to as P*ki's. That's where the offence is. ///

Exactly what I referred to in my 13:25 post, at least we can agree sometimes.
Everyone is offended about something or other nowadays eyetime people stopped being so precious.
AOG - //Thinking about it though, don't you own the sole right to be called by your surname? //

No, but I do own the right to be respected in the way I am addressed - as does everyone on here, and in the wider world.

Including your good self of course, whom I do not refer to as 'Git' because you find it offensive.

/// You stop starting a response to me with the word 'So ...' and then following it with a post that shows you either haven't understood what I have said, or you are just ignoring it and saying something I didn't say, but you wish I had said, and then replying to that ... ///

Now where have I showed that I have misunderstood you, obviously I said something that you didn't say, as much as you would wish everyone to speak the rubbish you sometimes come out with.

The word 'SO' is used in the way of replying to what a person has said, and offering an explanation by asking a question.

For your reference this is what I put.

So if it is used in an endearing fashion then it is ok?

As regards your deal I will continue to reply to posts in any way I feel appropriate, and you can carry on your silly teasing if that is all you can do.

/// Including your good self of course, whom I do not refer to as 'Git' because you find it
offensive. ///

'Git' is an offensive shortening of my username whilst yours is your surname.

Did you go home each day from school, crying to your parents, because the teachers called you Hughes?

There is no offensive term that refers to my skin colour, race or religion. Any words that try to be offensive about me I find daft
What a load of carp. Around here Scots are still referred to as Jocks, Welsh are called Taffs Irishmen are Paddies. Itie is short for Italian, Brits refers to Britain's. I see absolutely nothing wrong with using so called nick-names. The PC brigade have been allowed the rein for far too long they are now running amok.
Ron , see posts at 12.06 & 13.32
Mick Carter, the roughest of rough diamond type characters uses an outdated word to describe a night of Italian food - the professional watchers must have thought it was Christmas Day again.

Quite sad really.

//And why is, Poms, Yanks, Paddy's, Jocks etc, OK//

/// Because they are not considered to be offensive. ///

The question that has to be asked is, "By whom"?

Has there been a general vote on it?

Or is it just a small group of people, who tell us what we are allowed to say?
Mamy,so true
// Or is it just a small group of people, who tell us what we are allowed to say? // very true aog.
AOG, if you read the thread you will find a Scot who is not offended by the ord Jock, and likewise an Irishman and Paddy. As for myself I have no objection to being called a Pom.
I wouldn't even care if I was called a white 'honky'!! When did it become the norm for people to be offended all the damn time ??!
