Of course this bloke has never been elected into Politics. How the hell did he get into the House of Lords? Oh yes, he helped write the Lisbon Treaty! That says it all.

We became the worlds fifth biggest economy in spite of being part of Europe, think what we could do without

The AB Clique, good heavens the very idea!
" i am not part of the AB "clique" and am normally ignored or sometimes totally dismissed."

I would never do either, Linda (so long as you keep awarding be BAs !!) :-)

Surely, if you think article 50 is a bad thing, that rather proves his point doesn't it?
Shame you left the thread, Baldric, in protest at the BA being awarded so early on, as you have missed the new BA. BAs can change as the thread evolves. I didn't tend to take much notice of them anyway.

I agree FF ! What do they get, a gold medal? I like to give them because I have many good answers (especially in Crosswords) but don't even know I'd I have any myself!!
You have 9 BA's Linda.

Oh thanks Danny xx
Another bloke having a tantrum !
dannyk13 In your first answer to this thread you call Lord Kerr a 'Plonker' !
Do you realise that unless it was for him writing Article 50, your dream of leaving the EU could be far more difficult or even impossible?
Are you suggesting, Eddie, that unless the Lisbon Treaty contained an escape clause, no nation would ever be able to leave?

All A50 does is provides the EU with a two year negotiating window to screw all it can out of the escapee. Were it not there a member could simply say "that's it, we're off" and that would be that. Members signed the Treaty knowing that the way to leave (bar breaking the terms of the treat, which no member wold do) was via A50.
NJ , A50 provides a guide line as to how an exit from the EU can be managed.
If it did not exist the process of leaving would cause untold problems not the least of which would be how to do it. I know it's not perfect and has never been tried out but at least it provides a framework.
//A50 provides a guide line as to how an exit from the EU can be managed. //

A50 proves a EU framework! One they never contemplated being used. So ignore the "framework" and design a template for others to copy..... That's Brexit.

We would have found a way. If the EU tried to keep someone In against their will it would have been final proof that the EU is a Dictatorship.
It is a dictatorship Linda. They want to keep a majority of voters in the pyramid scheme, but we aren't trying to keep the entranced out. When we are out it is still there , they can still be a part of it. If we are finally disenfranchised the UK will be non existent.
Question Author
I don't really understand what you mean Togo. The U.K. will never be non existent. We have the fifth biggest economy in the world. Our economic growth is greater than all of the of the EU countries. We are the second biggest contributor to NATO after the USA and we will continue as a global trading nation after the EU implodes which it certainly will.
Do you think being a member of the EU made a contribution to being the worlds 5th biggest economy? Do you think we'd be any higher if we'd never joined?
Ah but Linda, when they manage to lock us in with no escape, our economic growth will become theirs. Our Nato contributions will become theirs( and the security that we fund will become primarily theirs). Then when the house of cards does collapse the bill to sort it out will once again become .....ours.
"Do you think being a member of the EU made a contribution to being the worlds 5th biggest economy?"

Probably.

"Do you think we'd be any higher if we'd never joined?"

Very possibly.

Alll very hypothetical, though.
One of my favourite questions (and I don't claim authorship) is, if you were outside of the European Union, would you vote to join it?
