I never thought I would see this kind of sentence. Its far too lenient as far as I am concerned, but at least its a move in the right direction.

Not sure why it has taken two years to get to this verdict however, despite Riley's illness.

It is sad that Molly-Mae lost her life in a situation that was totally preventable.

I love dogs, the bigger and cuddlier the better, but they all have the potential to be dangerous.

Pit Bulls are banned and this incident only proves that they should stay banned. This one was exceptionally aggressive and the mother knew it and warned people not to get too close to the dog.

No words can change this, will it serve to stop it happening again?

Unlikely.

RIP Molly-Mae.

As I understand it, the dog belonged to the mother. Why she choose to have such a dangerous and illegal dog, at the same time as a small baby is beyond me. Stupidity led to the childs death
About time!!
I don't know what the answer is in cases like this. There's no cure for stupidity.
It is strange that the owner of the dog was a woman. It is usually men who have such dogs.
The mother should be banned from ever having any more children as well. No-one is that stupid
I was frightened to say that, Prudie, but I agree. She should have her tubes tied.
it was in a cage, which suggests some care was being taken, though obviously not enough. I think it's mad to have a big dog and a small child in the same house; but I think it's odd to keep animals anyway, so I may be biased.

Yep, I think you might be, however you're entitled to an opinion however uninformed.
When I was born my mother, at the insistence of my grandmother, had her cat put down as it was showing signs of great jealousy.
Prudie, I think she's pregnant already.
I love dogs but I can't imagine wanting one that has to be kept in a cage - not least because it's not fair to the dog.
Well there's a surprise hc
Keeping a dog in a cage in the house isn't caring, it's ensuring there are times it doesn't bother you and yes I know there are good reasons for this occasionally. It's not my idea of how to home a dog.
^I agree.
...of course, many years later, my mother said she wished she'd kept the cat and had me put down!

We never use a cage, we do have dog-gates that can control access to certain areas, but nothing as cruel as cages.
oh, I agree, naomi; seems the worst solution for both dog and child. None the less, it's not quite the same as leaving it roaming the house.
I agree with the sentence. Having been bitten by a dog on my calf, it is no joke.
