When a thread like this is posted I'm always interested in what the people who who shout down the likes of me (against mass immigration) have to say.

Unfortunately those people generally ignore the thread or offer nothing as a counter argument other than 'we have our own criminals too you know'

I hope they don't ignore it Talbot because I find it very disturbing.

We could stop arresting foreign criminals as they are too expensive to process through the courts. Better to catch our own who are much cheaper. Probably process four natives for one foreign miscreant. Yes I know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
Well, the U.K. Populace must be getting better behaved then:

'Latest figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) showed that, for the offences it covers, there were an estimated 6.9 million incidents of crime against households and resident adults (aged 16 and over) in England and Wales. This is a 7% decrease compared with the previous year’s survey, and the lowest estimate since the CSEW began in 1981.'

I think this is more to do with the cost of prosecuting foreigners, especially those that dont parlez the local lingo.

Looks like you have, at least a partial, taker there Talbot
A slightly less provocative and more in depth article from the Telegraph:

Judge Tim: "the increase was “inevitable” given the number of migrants who had come to Britain in recent years and stressed that the “huge majority are law abiding”.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/07/old-bailey-judge-retiring-after-20-years-condemns-burden-foreign/
AS the article says the vast majority of (in this case Poles) are law abiding people.

However with our new found freedom looming we will be able to vet immigrants and those with non spent convictions or more than say two convictions for things should be blocked from coming in.

It's not rocket science.

Mind you I do think that their country of origin should be made to foot the total bill of their trial and incarceration, if found guilty of course. But in the same way the NHS has the ability to charge health tourists and don't bother neither will the justice system bother to recoup costs.

Perhaps both NHS and JS (if they ever bought it in) should be made to recoup the charges or lose finding?
Undoubtedly the vast majority are law abiding, but we should not have to take any who are not and if they transgress whilst here we should easily be able to deport them.

If we had controlled immigration without doubt the problem would be smaller.
Health tourists:

The UK paid out £6.2billion to EU countries to cover the treatment of Britons in their hospitals last year – but received only £405million in return from EU countries for treating ill foreigners in the National Health Service.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/04/health-tourists-cost-uk-taxpayers-nearly-6billion-in-eight-years/
http://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/bulletins/crimeinenglandandwales/yearendingmar2016

The police recorded 4.5 million offences in the year ending March 2016, an annual rise of 8%. However, this series is not considered a reliable indicator of trends in crime; most of the latest rise is thought to be due to improved crime recording practices and processes leading to a greater proportion of reports of crime being recorded in the last year than in the previous year.
Question Author
I think we all know the majority are law abiding, I am not denying that. As far as I am concerned that is a given. But there are still too many who are not and there seems to be enough of them to overload our system partly because they don't speak English or pretend not to. The statistics Zac has provided don't really answer my question as I don't see any breakdown of nationality but I haven't read the whole document as I have to go out.

No it didn't and it was cherry picking. (as was mine)

I wondered if you had any suggestions Talbot (apart possibly from stopping mass-immigration, which is largely dependent on Brexit negotiations/decisions)
What is to be done about it?

I think Mr Lawson has given more than a few clues LB.

Cameron has gone;let's see what this May-led government is made of..
This stinks to me of using the "immigration problem" as yet another way of keeping the immigration debate going strong.

We have had people on here in the past that have blamed immigration for the impending collapse of the NHS, despite that fact the immigrants are employed by the NHS in huge numbers. Its the same with housing, the benefit system, and even, if you believe Farage, for congestion on our roads !

?
Run me through your thinking in the above, mikey.
Talbot...simples !

The DM and newspapers like it, will bring immigration into every topic of conversation and debate it can, in order to keep the pot simmering.

Immigration has now become the scapegoat of every ill that our country has. Its a cheap shot and hits home very time. This time its our Justice system...next time it will be overcrowding on the trains, or litter, or pretty much anything else.
But surely if immigration was not a problem then the DM, or anyne else for that matter, wuld not be able to make capital from it.

There is a genuine issue with uncontrolled immigration and you dont need a brain much bigger than a pea to see why uncontrolled immigration simply does not work.

Of course if your mind is clouded by an ideaology ......
Sounds to me you recognise there is a 'immigration problem' mikey

But think it shouldn't be debate ...?
YMB....I am on record as supporting a proper, controlled approach to immigration, but I draw the line at using it as the root of all our evils, as others will do.

Mikey, so what do you think is Judge Pontius's motive for speaking out as he has? Is he and others in the legal profession not telling the truth? Surely he is in a better position than we are to see what is going on in our courts.
