Whether or not one agrees with this, the woman should have known the law, just as a bikini wearing Western woman should know an Islamic country's laws.

A thought-provoking article in yesterday’s sun from a French writer who suggests that this was a set up and that those howling disapproval have been ‘sucked in by Islamist propaganda’.

The woman had no bag or towel with her - unusual for someone planning a day at the beach - and more importantly the writer observes that the photographer was at the scene taking pictures before the police arrived … the picture below confirms that….

It doesn't make much difference to me whether it was set up or not. Either way, the point has been made that France is becoming a more repressive state. Even if it was set up, it is more likely that it was set up by a fan of liberty, equality and fraternity than by an Islamist. In fact, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems that this particular incident was set up to demonstrate the fallacy of France's response to terror attacks.

It's possible, but looking again at those photos they're obviously taken on camera phones and could therefore have been taken by anybody, probably other beach users.

Ellipsis, according to reports I've read the pictures are fairly long range - and looking at them seems to confirm that. One has to question why someone - the same someone who photographed the police talking to this woman - took a photograph of her before the police arrived.

Agreed, but of course people are at liberty to criticise it, especially people who believe that France is giving up on its core values and proceeding in the wrong direction, even if they agree with the desired destination.
