Pretty difficult to argue with his thoughts, especially the bit about 'would you join the EU in its current state'?:

“So all the warnings from government, treasury, IMF, IFS, etc etc are just 'figures plucked out of the sky'” They may well be valid figures, icky. The trouble is with the conclusions that are drawn from them. He says if we stay, we will be "cluttered " with migrants. I think he was being polite. Cluttered is not the word I'd use.
> 'England should be England' - Botham

He seems to be arguing for breaking up the UK, too ...

Poor attempt at spin, Elipsis as I believe he's a proud Great Briton too:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/35897255

whilst mr botham may not be arguing for the breakup of the UK, this is probably what will happen if the vote is "leave".
Another useful idiot for an increasingly lost cause.
It's the same old vacuous pseudo patriotic Brexit nonsense and I trust insufficient voters will be fooled by it.
So all the warnings from government, treasury, IMF, IFS, etc etc are just 'figures plucked out of the sky' to world renowned economist Ian Botham
You put that up against for example the words of John Major in the Daily Mail and you realise the disparity in credibility of each case.

Hello ichi, haven't noticed you posting for a while. Still supporting fascist Turkey, I see.
Not surprising that all those with their snouts already in the trough want to stay IN is it?
Don't worry too much ich, if the vote is to stay in we'll soon be knee deep in Turks as well as the rest of the EU patriots.
No matter how much Shredded Wheat 'Beefy' advocates, the Leave campaigners would seem to be staring at defeat...
No spin attempted, ChillDoubt - sorry if you saw it that way.
Millions of Turkish set to invade. Our infrastructure will collapse but one person on here will be happy
Wetherspoon wants out too

(Well, one man does. Obviously doesn't fancy selling beer to all those Turks.))

ich,
You mean this John Major, from the Guardian article:

Matthew Parris reminded us over the weekend that history has, so far, been unkind to Sir John Major. The world, Parris wrote, simply decided Major was "hapless".

Margaret Thatcher, on the other hand, will always be seen as the decisive Iron Lady.

These views explain why Conservative eurosceptics see Major as a weak prime minister who sold out British interests to Europe while Thatcher managed to roll back the European superstate.

Major, who believes this version of history is deeply unfair, is too polite to say that their records were rather different. Thatcher signed one of the most integrationist measures (the single European act) while Major resisted the most integrationist measure – the euro.
the European project has been a Tory one from the start. Heath got Britain in (and Thatcher backed him). Thatcher signed the Single European Act. Major signed the Maastricht treaty. (Brown kept Britain out of the euro.)
“So all the warnings from government, treasury, IMF, IFS, etc etc are just 'figures plucked out of the sky'”

They may well be valid figures, icky. The trouble is with the conclusions that are drawn from them. Some or all of those same organisations warned of catastrophes should (a) the UK leave the ERM; (b) should the UK fail to join the euro and (c) should the UK operate a programme of austerity instead of borrowing even more money to secure "growth"..

If it’s all the same to you I think I’ll follow Mr Botham’s nose.
his Beefyness is bang on. usual sneering insults from senior ABC member ichkeria I see, only to be expected I suppose.
ABC?
Whoosh, jackdaw. Tee hee.
David Cameron said that if he didn't get the deal he wanted he would campaign for a leave vote.He didn't get the deal he wanted yet he is now campaigning to stay in.What conclusion should we draw from that?
He has either personal financial interests in a remain vote or has been promised a non-existant post further up ("President of Europe") like Tony Blair.
