Well I think that classing someone who has dyslexia as disabled is insulting to both them and the disabled but that's me. Where will this den indeed

Why do some of you find it funny to co out with comments about the disabled?"

" I felt exactly the same when reading agchristies attempt at humor at the expense of dyslexics.

My daughtet is a manager, she is also severely dyslexic. She wold not have applied for the job if she thought she could not do it - Dyslexia covers a vast array of disability and should really be a 'spectrum'. This woman , for whatever reason, cold not do her job properly and when challenged played the Trump card -disability. If she has told Starbucks she was Dyslexic I doubt she would have been given the tasks she had.
Maybe funny to some, just think about the person that's had their limbs blown off in combat, I maybe strange with my comments, stranger world we live in.
Some might say that there are grounds for dismissal.

She was offered other duties and retraining but sued them instead.
To stretch an analogy, it would be like me 'having a crack' at doctoring. After killing my first 10 patients they put me to work as a porter and I sued them for my hurt feelings.
Question Author
As I said earlier, firms up and down the country won't be mentoring dyslexics. They'll just make sure they don't employ them.
@retrochic et all

Apologies for any offence caused by my first post. I've never ever had a thread removed until today, on another thread. Bad day at the office it seems :(
I think the person that brought this person close to killing herself should be Re-Retrained, if the person would have asked this lady if she had a problem all could have been avoided, the wrong person needed training here.
I honestly think you did not mean offence Agchristie, we all make mistakes, myself included many times, Lets move on with Svejk post
Thanks TWR - I certainly didn't.
ag, justice is not always done. ;o)
Yes Naomi, I was only sticking up for you on the other thread and it vanished!

(Sorry for diversion Svejk)
I know. No rhyme nor reason and certainly no crime.
Question Author
As I said to someone else recently, ag, getting a post removed should be considered a badge of honour around here. ;o)
Ive had plenty removed, probably more than I even realise as I pretty much dont even bother to check back after posting most of the time....really not that bothered though because they probably stay up long enough that those that get foamy and frothy at the mouth will have read them, so jobs a goodun as they say though
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/woman-nearly-killed-herself-because-starbucks-did-not-understand-her-dyslexia-a6862356.html

"She added that the company should have “brought in the Dyslexia Association” and that having someone check what she had done would have helped her."

so why employ her in the first place, might as well get somebody without a "disability" to do the job properly in the first place..
This woman didn't kill herself; she didn't try to kill herself; she 'nearly tried' to kill herself - what a pretty pass we've come to in this country when a case like this can succeed.
Surely the health and safety of customers takes precedent over an employee who should have told the employer she has trouble with spelling and figures, Starbucks could have been closed over this if inspectors came into the store to look at the records they kept.

What will she go for next, air traffic controller? an MPs account..............now there's an idea.
So should all Employers be sued for discrimination because they reject job applicants simply because they are not mentally efficient enough to do the job offered?
Pity it had to get to the stage it did, if some further understanding of how to help employees in the workplace comes from it then good.

She certainly seemed very keen to work and to be successful at what she did despite challenges rather than sit back and say 'I can't'.
