Can we stop giving money to foreigners and use it to do some proper flood defences? We should also suspend EU payments for at least 1 year and add that to the pot.

We no longer have our own country and help others when people here who have worked all theirs lives have to go to a food bank and pensioners pay tax on their pension to give to people who come here and get benefits When you see 25 people in hijabs and with loads of kids within five minutes of getting off a bus its a joke to say we look after our own

Well it is obvious that we don't have money for both.
The money going to people in desperately poor countries helps alleviate distress and buys influence. It's well spent.

That is what they would wish you to think, the reality is that it generally goes to corruptly lead countries, and those desperately poor people get to see very little of the money.

India now have a space programme yet we still send them money.
We sent 615m to Pakistan for education. Teach them English, then send them over here to get benefits, which they post to Pakistan. Brilliant!

but sandy says it's well spent so I am reassured.
Okay, TTT, must be true then. My mind is at rest now...

... I mean chief mumbo jumbo needs his 34th Rolls Royce doesn't he! PMSL I could just about understand of any of our aid actually went anywhere near the needy.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, what evidence do you have that the remaining 90% of aid not going to the twenty corrupt nations 'generally goes to corruptly lead countries?'
We are a wealthy country and we can afford to do both TTT. When billions are going to be spent in the Sales over the next few days, we can hardly call Britain a poor country.

And Bordeaux...with respect...utter drivel. I can go weeks without seeing a single hijab, so there is no connection between those 25 people in hijabs that you keep seeing, and the money we spend on flood defences. But you deserve some recognition for bringing the "muslim" card into the debate !

I knew someone would at some stage.
//I can go weeks without seeing a single hijab, ///

probably - but then, you live in remotest wales mikey, where there tend not to be ethnic ghettoes. if you lived in southall and could claim absence of hijab sightings, you statement would hold more water.

" I can go weeks without seeing a single hijab," - not since that creamy one the bake a cake contest you can't!

Take a look at the Debt clock.

That is our money we are spending, mostly earned by sweat and toil, not the the government's.

But wait a minute that is also our money isn't it?

*won!
Mush...Swansea is hardly "remotest Wales"

We are a busy, multicultural City, with 3 Colleges and a population of about 239,000. In the 2011 Census, Muslims accounted for 4.8% of the population of Britain, and that includes Wales and Southall.

(By the way, have a look at the Wiki entry for Southall. Only 13.3% of the population appears to be Muslim....35% is listed as Christian !)

I just wish some people here on AB would get the racial and cultural make up of Great Britain into the right proportion.

Anyway, Muslims in Britain has nothing whatsoever to do with preventing flooding in Cumbria, despite Bordeaux's attempt to confuse the issue by conflating the two things.
Good post Bordeaux ...

not yet TCL, it will be, that's why it's called "credit".
