I know you can't judge people by appearances, but why is it that not one of the people supporting this party look and sound like people you would want to spend above thirty seconds with?

Svejk - //You're moving the goal posts, andy. //

How so?
a) His views on abortion make him a very nasty individual indeed

b) Anyone can have a view on anything

The fact the Best Answer has gone to a Post that supports judging people on appearance alone speaks volumes on the attitude of the OPer.

I don't see why that moves goal posts!

His views on abortion make him a nasty individual, and of course, he is entitled to hold that view.

My view is that anti-abortionists are very nasty people, and of course, I am entitled to hold that view.

I can't see a problem with goalposts there - ?
divebuddy - //If being anti-abortion equals very nasty indeed. Where does that leave the government of the Republic of Ireland. //

In the 'very nasty' corner - but that is only my view.
Baldric - //The fact the Best Answer has gone to a Post that supports judging people on appearance alone speaks volumes on the attitude of the OPer. //

As the recipient of the 'Best Answer' - you would expect my views to be in mine with mikey, since he awards the BA - and they are - so what does that say in 'volumes' about him?

Like you in the post I mentioned he obviously makes superficial judgements,

///not one of the people supporting this party look and sound like people you would want to spend above thirty seconds with///

which is totally at odds with the opening statement
Baldric - //Like you in the post I mentioned he obviously makes superficial judgements, //

You'll have to wait for mikey to return for an answer to that point, I cannot speak for him.

I agree with Andy here, which is why I gave him BA !

Shaved heads, Nazi salutes, brassy, grim faced women....not the sort of company I would like to spend any time with at all.

Its the Usual Subjects from the far right. Organisations like this always tend to recruit from the same slice of human society as they always do. The EDL especially, seem to get most of their supporters from the ranks of football hooligans.

But the man point of raising this thread in the first place, was to point out how media-savvy the Far Right has become. The National Front and its successor, the BNP, have been exposed as the fascist and dangerous organisations that they always were. When the truly odious Nick Griffin appeared on Question Time in 2009, it was argued by some, but not by me, that he should never have been allowed to appear on the program. But shortly after he did, the future for the BNP were effectively over, and now pose very little threat. Hoisted by its own petard, so to speak.

So the Far Right re-grouped, and they now appear to have tried donned a thin cloak of respectability in BF. Well, that seems to be the case at first, but the organisation is soon revealed in its true colours, at the first examination.

in 2014, BF tried to gain some respectability by associating itself with Lee Rigby, which caused the Electoral Commission to issue an apology, for the offence caused to the Rugby family. In the same year, BF was issued with a request that they remove an image of the British crown from their merchandise.

The EDL got similarly itself into hot water by trying to associate itself with the British Legion.

This is how the Far Right are trying to slip in under the wire, by confusing people, and in its attempt to gain respectability, and we should all be aware of what they trying to do. So next time you see a poster or a tweet, or a post in facebook attacking Muslims, or any other foreigners, look out for the BF logo.

Would you prefer to spend time with the hard line Muslims who were brawling in Germany this week, forcing the police to use tear gas on them?

Or is it 'stick my fingers in my ears and go ♪ ting a ling a loo ♫ time?

(I can provide a link to the thread if you wish)
I don't know what Mikey's getting all het up about. We've seen it all before: National Front, BNP, EDL &c. None of them amount to anything and ever will, all noise and no substance. Best ignored. Oxygen of publicity and all that...

This thread is about the rise of the Far Right in Britain, and the way it is trying to use social media in an attempt at responsability, so I have no wish to be dragged off on any tangents.

Start a thread about Muslims if you wish, or join in some that are already here ...we are hardly short of suitable threads, God knows.
Talbot has a point though, Mikey.
Question Author
Ummm........Talbot may have a point but it is irrelevant to this thread about the rise of Far Right politics in Britain.

BF do not operate in Germany.
Mikey; //This is how the Far Right are trying to slip in under the wire, by confusing people,//

If you want to learn something further of the 'far right', please (I implore you!) watch my link to the youtube of Hamad Abdel-Samad which I posted above, yesterday (Mon.) at 15:42.
If you prefer, you can skip the first 10 minutes which is largely an introduction - though that is interesting - and get strait to his talk, which is followed by questions and answers.
"This thread is about the rise of the Far Right in Britain, and the way it is trying to use social media ...
Start a thread about Muslims if you wish...".

The most far right groups in Britain, the most numerous and the best funded are Islamic fundamentalists. Britain First is a poor cousin.

Cousin? That was a poor choice of words. Apologies to both sets of fascists for any offence caused.
Question Author
I am quite frankly amazed that so many of you refuse condemn BF, but instead prefer to change the subject !

Is this how BF has more followers on Facebook than any other political Party?

Here is a page on Facebook that people can join, instead of the one that supports BF !

https://www.facebook.com/Exposing0Britain0First
You're like a dog with a bone, Mikey, you just won't let go. Are you seriously suggesting that anyone of sound mind considers Facebook to be a reliable indicator of public opinion?
Question Author
Jack ....I will always exposed organisations like BF, as I have campaigned against other Far Right organisations in the past, and I shall continue to do so...sorry !

The main difference between BF and the National Front, BNP and The British Union of Fascists, is that BF have discovered how useful social media can be to them. And that is my point here. Facebook gives a veneer of acceptability to an organization that finds it difficult to achieve it by other means.

Marshall Mcluhan was right....the medium is the message !
