Well done that man.

Like most awarded such honours, a typically self deprecating account of true heroism, whilst never doubting that his muckers would have unquestionably done the same thing.

It always rankles when the likes of top footballers are sometimes referred to as 'under pressure', when many by their actions are not fit to even lace this guys boots.

Chilldoubt I think you know enough about me to realise I have, and always will, support the bravery of our armed forces. I will always try to defend them when others put them down.I cannot add any other words of admiration and gratitude for these young men and women that have already been written here. I recognise a few posters here who were howling with rage when...

Chill I agree with you wholeheartedly. That young para, and the others getting well earned rewards are every one of them a hero.

Some overpaid and self important clown kicking a ball is, as you say, not fit to clean their boots. In fact, they are not fit to be in the same room.

Chilli...as you know..ot have guessed i agree with every word that you have written. HOWEVER one has to be put into a position of "impending bravery" before one can say how one would react.........you can never be sure.

Would Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo react in the same way as this brave Lance corporal.......who knows?

People are under pressure and react to pressure in different ways.

Well done young man.
This wonderful young man reflects the best of all or amazing Forces. They have my total and complete admiration and respect and also, my eternal gratitude.

But hey, what's the top news today?.... some daft old singer falling off a stage at the Brits. Go figure...

Excellent, what a role model.

Just a pity that there is more attention and furor over a few luvvies patting themselves on the back.

What a wonderful chap he is ! It make me so proud of our Armed Forces, that we can produce someone like L/Cpl Joshua Leakey. VC's are awarded so rarely. His family must be bursting with pride !
Yes congratulations to a true hero, as all our armed forces are, true heroes.

These are the ones who should be on the Honours lists, not what they have done for acting or for football etc, etc, but for what they have done for their country.

Arise Sir Joshua Leakey.
The Armed Forces, men and women giving their most precious gift for our benefit -pity our Country can't look after them properly when they retire from Service.
aog...we seem to be in one our rare moments of complete agreement ! Very refreshing indeed, and we should do it more often !

How about Lord Leakey !
He's a brave man.
Is the headline on this page wrong? Wasn't there another soldier recently awarded the VC?

AOG/mikey...steady on, if he was knighted then he would attract the title if Sir with the appropriate reference and only a commissioned officer is referred to as "Sir" in the Armed Forces of Her Majesty.

I don't think so sandy...its the same lad. Were you getting him mixed up with this lad perhaps ? :::::

I see from Googling that the soldier I had in mind was Johnston Beharry.
many have sad it above all I can add is, awesome acheivement.
I bow to your superior knowledge Sqad ! But perhaps he could stand for Parliament ?

From what my brother, who was in the Light Infantry for a few years, this lad will be able to walk into any job he wants, after leaving the Army.

/// aog...we seem to be in one our rare moments of complete agreement ! Very refreshing indeed, and we should do it more often ! ///

I am willing if you are, but not all the time eh, because wouldn't it be dull if we all agreed with each other all of the time?

/// How about Lord Leakey ! ///

That certainly rolls off the tongue.
Just thought of another tack Sqad...if what you have said is correct, than make him a ruddy General then !
well done that man
but less well done that poster

// It always rankles when the likes of top footballers //

Are there very many VCs in the premier league ? and if there aren't
what is a howling non sequitur doing in a citation for a brave man

( yes I know footballers arent brave, it is the way they lie on grass and scream like babies ) PS I am not very brave either
Johnson Beharry is living and HE has a VC doesnt he ?

[ comment on first living VC ]
Sqad

Then why not throw in a commission as well, lets face it he has had more experience in the field than some of those desk bound Generals.
