Supermarket management always say that this sort of thing was a mistake and their Staff will be reminded of the correct policy. But in this case 3 checkout staff shouted at this poor lady, not just some twit of a security guard, which is the usual story. And she has been offered a £20 voucher !

A face to face apology is what Tesco should be offering this lady, and from the checkout staff involved.

Do you really need training to recognize a guide dog, in a florescent harness with guide dog in big letters? Do you really need training to realize that almost evey where in the UK guide dogs are allowed? I don't think so?

are face to face apologies much use to the blind?
Agreed 100% Mikey. Tesco and it's staff are the bully boys of the High Street. £20 voucher? What a disgrace.
I'd be more concerned about the great big elephant, which looks a bit like Elmer, being trundled into the store personally.
Outrageous!!

She should have had a personal apology and a months free shopping, I would have stuck that £20 voucher where the sun don't shine!!!
Not sure this is the sort of publicity Tesco needs at the moment...

jno...what a daft and insensitive thing to say ! You don't work as a check operator at Tesco by any chance do you ?
they run wild on the streets of London, B00, people are used to them

(I saw that one, by the way, it was magic)

Outrage is unnecessary. The cashiers were twits. She should have told the dimwit who was serving her to call the manager. Sorted.
I think the woman may have made the error of looking insufficiently old and decrepit.

Young attractive women obviously don't need guide dogs .... She may be a bit foreign looking too which won't have helped.

Naomi - if there were three or four staff shouting at her i'd assume that one of them was the manager - minitescos are not exactly overstaffed.
it's quite a big one, if this link works (and I've got the right shop)

At the risk of offending those who work on the tills, it isn't the kind of job one eulogizes about to one's career's master. Taken by those desperate to move on to something more interesting or those incapable of moving on but willing to work for an income, it's possible those involved couldn't twig that there is a difference between 'no pets' and 'no animals'. And the customer is never right.
OG, yes, if all the staff thought no animals at all were allowed then there may well have been something wrong with the training regime there.
pay peanuts get monkeys, true, as ever.

Face to face apologies are useful to the blind and partially sighted,we can hear intonation in voices.

An obvious case of a total failure in staff training and understanding of the legislation.
I, for my sins, used to be a checkout operator for that particular company. I left 6 years ago as I was sick of being treated like poop by my bosses. While I worked there we had a deaf lady who had a hearing dog and it took her months before staff kept telling her she couldn't bring the dog in store! The problem with that company is they don't want any of the staff to have a personality they want robots, would you like help with your packing, do you have a club card .... AAGGHH!! flash back!!!!!!!
Poor lady. There are signs everywhere in supermarkets saying 'no dogs allowed, except guide dogs'. Can't understand this at all !
that's a shame because my Tesco store is great with me and cant do enough to help.
thanks, Mamyalynne

lyall...interesting and depressing story. It would seem that this isn't an isolated occurrence by some ignorant Staff, if what you say is true. Guide Dogs look like Guide Dogs as far as I am concerned, and should be instantly recognisable.

Considering the current state of Tesco, with its pending investigation into fraud going on, you would have thought that they would be ultra-cautious about any bad publicity.
