Those who cry 'unduly lenient' are perhaps looking at this too narrow. DLT has a conviction against his name, has suffered the long anguish of two trials which has obviously taken its toll on his health. His reputation has been tarnished, his finances have taken a battering, sold his home to finance his costs etc. Put the sum total together of his 'punishment'...

I quoted you, then gave the evidence that you claimed wasn't there!
So if someone is a sex offender but their wife is ever so nice we ought not to report their crimes in case it upsets her? Good grief.
Oh gawd.....
naomi24 - "Jack, //Why on earth should she concern herself with DLT's family?!?//

In a case like this, I would think very differently to you."

Since Mr Travis does not have children, he and his wife are adults - a factor which influences your thoughts on the victim, why not the criminal's family?
naomi - Are you suggesting that a victim ought to consider the impact her/him seeking judicial redress will have on the family of the 'assailant'?

Really? What a strange notion.
Jack, for a relatively minor offence, after twenty years ... yes.
naomi - "... a relatively minor offence ..."

That is a matter of perception - the law and the victim do not see it that way.
I repeat. Oh gawd ....

Talk amongst yourselves - I'm going to make a cup of tea.
naomi - surely you don't feel as though you are losing the debate do you?
I expect she's feeling out-numbered although the majority on AB and the country at large agree with her. The rest of us don't have the patience to go around in circles all day. I suspect Naomi has some experience of working with 'difficult' children.
Svejk - "I expect she's feeling out-numbered although the majority on AB and the country at large agree with her."

If naomi's view is chiming with 'the majority on AB and the country at large ...' how on earth can she at the same time feel 'outnumbered'?
I suspect actually Svejk she's realised she's painted herself into a corner and there is no way out without getting her tootsies all painty so she's wandered off for a bit.
No, andy. I really was making a cup of tea - and putting the dogs out for their ablutions. Strange that you should see this discussion as some sort of competition to be won or lost. The verdict has been given, and as far as I can see we're simply raking over the coals.
...Or perhaps that's just me. ;o)
naomi24 - "Strange that you should see this discussion as some sort of competition to be won or lost."

I don't see it as a competition - as my post advised - but I do see it as a debate, and by definition, they are won or lost.
There is too much challenging our judges. Are we saying that some on the circuit are 'out of touch' or not in the real world? If you gave 10 members of the public a copy of the victim's impact statement you would probably receive 10 different opinions.

It happens all the time in sport, like football. Constant undermining of authority by those who think they know better.
Of course, we could all just take the view that if DLT had kept his grubby hands to himself, none of this would have happened...

In the odd interview I've seen with him outside the court after the sentence was passed, he didn't even seem slightly ashamed, contrite or apologetic.
Maybe it's not Naomi any more. Some interloper could have comandeered her computer while she's having a cup of tea.
I see the Groundhog Day thread hasn't really moved on in the interim period whilst I've been at the flicks! LOL
I'll leave you to it.....
andy, hardly the Cambridge Union!

Ludwig, :o)
