Nice to see that the carnival everybody loves went off quite peacefully.

Just three men were stabbed, two police officers injured, 261 arrests, several men injured, one sustaining a serious stab wound and eight others also received knife wounds, six men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and a female police officer attacked.

The Metropolitan Police also issued Section 60 and Section 60AA Orders, giving police the power to stop and search across the two-day Carnival late last night in response to the stabbings, but strangely enough they were only put in place from 7pm on Monday until 2am Tuesday, why weren't they in place before, during and after the carnival?

Nice though to see a change from the obligatory black lady wears policeman's helmet photo.

I suppose he's wondering, like many people, why such an event was ever allowed to gain hold and increase its level of disruption in such an unsuitable area. He may also be wondering why one with such levels of arrests for offences involving violence - many of them serious - is still countenanced. Still, it could have been worse; at least he lashed down with rain...

Bournemouth Air show attracts about 1million so I shall look forward to the stabbings, hundreds of arrests and coppers beat up then.
A well worthy event then.

I don't get what you mean?

What money are you referring to?

Youngmafbog only when this lot are coming through

http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/11419853.UPDATE__EDL_set_to_march_through_Bournemouth_on_Saturday/?ref=var_0

Places of gatherings are usually peaceful but when you have drink/drugs/music/gangs and criminals there then they will also attract antisocial behavior/rivals turning up etc..

We as peaceful people should unite as we have and say NO we will carry on to work with the police until the criminal/anti social lot get the message that these are NOT the places to come to unless you come in peace and with a big :) on your faces.

Unfortunately, with increased gang violence in London, inevitably (or perhaps not) there will be criminals and gang members coming to the NHC.

Comparing the NHC crime stats to the Bournemouth Air Show is as valid as comparing the amount of drugs taken at Glastonbury to the amount of drugs taken at Glynbourne.
".....wouldn't it have been better to have went to the carnival yourself and done a "hands on" experience of the carnival yourself..." - better get a stab vest AOG!
Not a fair comparison Youngmafbog.

/// This would make your claims/fears very much more credible. ///

So no matter what disasters etc take place, one should be there one's self before making a comment eh?

Luckily I got the report from The Independent and not The Mail that at least stopped you from stating "it's all lies".

/// I had many friends who went and none of them were stabbed/assaulted/robbed and all had a great time and said they'd be back again next year as millions will be. ///

Just as most likely your friends will travel up and down the Motorways or fly in a plane, but that does not mean that they might not become another unfortunate statistic, let's hope they do not however, but it is possible.

Travelling on the motorway and flying as become a necessity these days but this carnival has not, and all these deaths, stabbings and disruptions etc could be prevented just by no longer allowing it to take place.
TTT

I think that might be being a little over-cautious. I've only got 26 years experience of the NHC (unlike others here who seem to have a much deeper knowledge of what it's like), and the most protection I've ever needed is an umbrella.

And perhaps a giant bottle of water, that I needed one year when eating a particularly violent pepper sauce patty.
Actually AOG, you may have alighted on something that none of us have previously considered.

It's fairly obvious that many of these crimes (at least the crimes of violence are gang-related). I think that must be a given.

Would you agree?
So no matter what disasters etc take place, one should be there one's self before making a comment eh? "

You have two twins. One has flew on planes/drove down motorways/crossed the road. The other has never left her house.

Both make comments about the safety of these subjects online one using the medias graphs/views/statistics the other uses her OWN personal experiences as well as the medias graphs/views/statistics so she can make more rounded review.

Which twins advice/review would you follow?

I know which one I would.

/// but I still don't think that this alone should deprive London of the event - that would be to accept that the criminal element can dictate to the law-abiding majority. ///

The majority suffering for the acts of the minority, is a situation that we have all become accustomed to.

ummmm

/// I wonder how much money was spent... ///

Some people are always ready to ignore the downside, where their god 'MONEY' is concerned.

I wonder how much money the drug dealers made, or even how much of the Carnival's money was declared to H M Revenue & Customs?
AOG

I don't think that's true, but then to be honest - I've had a really happy life, with very little racism (from the racist minority in the UK) to speak of.

But back to my question - don't you think that it's arguably gang-related violence that constitutes much of the arrests for violent disorder?
AOG

You ask:

"I wonder how much money the drug dealers made, or even how much of the Carnival's money was declared to H M Revenue & Customs?"

I'm sure you do...I'm sure you do...
AOG

Actually, I've just thought...

You wrote:

"The majority suffering for the acts of the minority, is a situation that we have all become accustomed to"

Who are you referring to?

/// The march, planned for this Saturday, is billed as a demonstration against Islamic extremism and could be attended by hundreds of people. ///

The demonstrating has taken place can you provide us with the number of deaths, stabbings etc that have taken place?

And surely a demonstration against Islamic extremism should not be criticised in view of what is kicking off in the Middle East?

/// and the most protection I've ever needed is an umbrella. ///

Ah yes a wise move taking an umbrella along in case it rains, so why not a stab vest in case you get stabbed?

Put it this way, I don't know about you, but I would much rather get soaking wet than be stabbed.
