Lots of abusers are still very much alive and kicking and almost certainly still abusing. Google Elm Guest House for instance. Cyril Smith was never prosecuted because he knew where the bodies were buried. He didn't abuse boys in Rochdale on his own. Local journalists will tell you about the "dirty mac brigade" that used to turn up by train on a Saturday...

And the title of 'Tie my Kangaroo down, sport,' which I took to be totally innocent have taken on an altogether darker complexion.
And so was he on the TV sets when making the RSPCA series jno - so I'm told. And that was a lot more recently!
canary42...I have posted this afternoon at length about Cyril Smith.

I too was amazed by the fact that in his case the sexual abuse went on for over 50 years. What was even more amazing is the fact that so many people were aware of his activities. Some of those people were Policemen and to give them credit, they did investigate but were told to drop the cases, by orders from above, on one occasion by Special Branch !

That is what is so galling about these cases. Whether it is Stuart Hall, or Savile or Cyril Smith, or now, Rolf Harris, the media will be thick with
"I Told You So's" from the good and great.

What a great pity that these people didn't speak up, and very loudly at the time. Paul Gambaccini has recently said that he knew that Savile committed disgusting offences with dead bodies...the fact that he kept quiet about it the time is an accessory to the event as far as I am concerned !
offences with dead bodies are illegal, of course, but a sort of victimless crime and I think far less serious than his offences with live people. I'm not sure I'd have reported them either, unless I actually had evidence.
He was quite a good painter, even did a portrait of the queen. His paintings sold for thousands, I wonder how they will stand in the art market now? and will collectors still want them hanging on their walls?
Notwithstanding Caravaggio was a rapist and murderer of course.
quite right about Caravaggio. Cellini was even worse; he killed several people and boasted about it. Maybe the distance in time makes them safe to buy?
Victimless crime jno ? Really ? What about the relatives of those dead people in the Mortuary ?

Could there people still alive today whose relatives died in St Jimmy's who are worrying that it might have been THEIR kin that Savile violated ?
Just one more piece of evidence that people who bad things don't necessarily look like 'evil monsters'.

And that people who do good things can look 'creepy'.

If people continue to expect 'baddies' to look like baddies then we will continue to overlook bad things being perpetrated; and continue to jump to wrong conclusions about the non-guilty.
they might well be upset, but I don't think they're victims. I wonder if the law would allow them compensation, for instance? (It might, I don't know.)

Breaking news: Rolf Harris will be stripped of the BAFTA Fellowship he was awarded two years ago, and could lose his CBE from the Queen after being found guilty of indecent assault.

The decision to revoke an honour must be approved by the Queen.

Harris was first honoured at the palace in the late 1960s with an MBE, followed by an OBE a decade later, and a CBE in 2006.
The Palace really have no choice after annulling Stuart Hall's OBE.
She sent his painting back as soon as he was arrested, i imagine she will now that he's been found guilty.
He did encourage a number of people into the art and animation industries. But he has turned out to be a monster.
I remember Sandie Shaw tried out a selection of songs on his show; the most popular one she took to Eurovision, and won. I hope she doesn't have to hand anything back.
I'm not in the least surprised by the verdict.

I would have been shocked if the Jury had returned a "not guilty" verdict.
Judge sweeney said - yes the slammer for you my boy...

they have special geriatric prisons apparently....
-Must avoid obvious feed line.

Then again, there are links with Jim'll Fix It and Challenge Anneka, DIY SOS and Make A Wish foundation, going back to how Rolf inspired artists.

more of a stigma for the family to bear had it been boys that's my point,
try not to be dumbfounded
ivor4781 Are you seriously suggesting a paedophile is worse if he abuses boys instead of girls?
I can't grasp your point
