Over here professional sportspeople have been banned from their sport for much lesser sins. It sends a message to other sportspeople and the community at large that that sort of behavior will not be tolerated.

ChillDoubt, the terrorists who went on to have political careers had the support of their communities

Evans will get the same from his team's fans sandy.
It's the same thing.
some of his pay should be taken away to go to who ever he raped or tried to rape even if he doesn't want it to
tristen, do you really think money is compensation for a rape victim?

no but sorry wont help eather i mean he could bake them a cake but i dont see much helping other then his ass in jail
My wife says she would never accept money from anyone who sexually assaulted her as it would make it a business transaction - payment for services rendered.
so would your wife take a cake instead?
SR: should a convicted rapist be allowed to resume a lucrative career in footie ?

yeah but no mixed teams....

are we saying redemption, penance and rehabilitation have not place in a modern society ?

or he could become a banker or some other low status job ?
Question Author
He denies his guilt. Without contrition how could redemption, penance and rehabilitation come into the equation?
I don't think he is guilty but that's neither here nor there, when he is released he should be free to do whatever he wishes (within reason of course)
Which careers should convicted rapists be banned from then? Do you have a list or is it just football?
I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you suggesting his career choices be restricted?
His career choices will be restricted by DBS checks. Perhaps salary- limits is the suggestion. I still think some to a relevant charity would be more useful.
What about salary limits for convicted burglars?
Minimum wage? Nah ....less, I reckon.
Yeah, why not- as long as they aren't entitled to benefits.
There's rape and there's rape.
There is a difference between assaulting a random female on an isolated path, dragging her into the bushes and raping her forcibly and an instance of some star struck football groupie withdrawing consent half way through a hitherto consensual encounter.
Yet both 'perps' could be 'convicted rapists'.
Perhaps one should be ostracised and the other sympathised?
no shoota.................rape is rape. you have no right to assume anything about the female who was raped. he was found guilty .
Murderers should get even less money than burglars.

My point is that apart from the obvious things like paedophiles not being allowed to work with children etc, you can't restrict what people do for a living after they've been punished for a crime. If someone who knows their history is still prepared to employ them, that's their business.
Question Author
Say you had a great footballer who was a convicted paedophile. You'd bring him back to the team after he'd served his time?
What would that say about your opinion of the fans who followed the club?
I wouldn't like him, but I honestly don't see what his past has to do with his football skills. Sorry.
