All the Tory supporters here on AB...do you think this is a good idea, given the record of privatisations lately ? Who should be allowed to bid for these new contracts then...ATOS or G4S perhaps ?

The minute you give someone a financial incentive to do their job - other than their salary - you have problems. Instantly, tunnel vision commences - everything comes down to cost, and how to save and reduce it, and that rarely leads to an improvement in any delivery of end-product. emmie...you are right in everything you say, but most of the care of the elderly is already privatised, which is the main problem. Poorly paid, semi-skilled care assistants, being run ragged by greedy employers, who only want to make a profit.

Child Protection isn't the same area at all, but if we allow the profit motive to enter into it, the result will be the same...a complete shamble, even worse than it is now.

This plan by the Tory government is just to save money...it has nothing to do with better care provision whatsoever.
families member worked in care homes for years, a number were state run, those who did work in private care homes, say that the problem was mainly the staffing, levels not nearly high enough, and the simple fact is both state run, and private do not pay high wages, and if they did then perhaps they would see better people, or it could have the opposite effect of only in it for the money, which i suspect happens now. Its a minefield of problems, state or private run care.
