Should he now be 'fired'?

What I can't understand, this has been his profile picture on Twitter since September but it is said that it has only recently been brought to light.

His excuse was "I am running for election this year and I think the opposition have picked it up and are trying to summon up some dirt about it".

what is his "mind set" ?

I know doctors who shoot, do they have a good enough "mind set" to treat?

Yes if all else fails, wheel out the over used racist accusations.
Enlighten us then AoG. What, specifically, about this photo prompts you to call for this guy to be removed as a magistrate?

Comparisons between sporting shot guns used for clay pigeon shooting or game hunting and a AK-47 assault rifle are just plain ridiculous, as are pictures of a former British Prime Minister riding in a tank of her armed forces.

Much as Mrs T would have liked them to have been 'her armed forces' they're actually soldiers of the queen.

Why? What, specifically, bothers you about this picture AoG? What specifically in this picture disqualifies this man from being a magistrate to your mind?
I really can't see the problem with someone holding a gun.
Why are you asking if he should be fired.

What has he done?

Well for starters I would question anyone's ability to hold such a post who chooses to pose for such a photo and then to use it as one's profile picture on a world wide social web site.

This is a 47 year old man we are talking about not a younger, who would maybe pose for such a picture for bravado and macho reasons.
i see the usual suspects are 'ganging up' on you again, aog.
dont let them grind you down, old chap. ;o)
but what is the "mind set" you are so against?

do you actually know the chap?

If I may come in on your dialogue with AOG here - from my view poiint, this is not a matter of behaviour, but a matter of jusgement.

It's not the holding of a gun, or indeed shooting in his spare time that makes this person unsuitable as a magistrate - it's his lack of judgement in being pohotographed like this, and using it in a public forum. That to me shows a lack of awareness that i would find worrying in anyone in public office - expecially someone whose legal decisions affect the lives of others.

It would be difficult to be seen as objective in dealing with a case for illegal gun posession - not because this gentleman owns a gun, or guns, but because he thinks posing and using photos like this is acceptable in his position, when clearly it is not acceptable.

Being in public life closes off some behavioural avenues, which people in public life accept as being part and parcel of their lifestyle. Unwillingness to accept and allow for the opinions of others is either arrogance or stupidity, or both, neither of which are appropriate for the status of the man in question.

Being a councillor and magistrate and shooting - no problem, posing with an assault rifle and favoured terrorist armament - that is a problem.

This appeared to be posted while I was writing my post, but as I guessed, we are entirely as one in our view on this instance.
[i]Gromit...he#s holding a gun[i]

ummmm, his career is shot. It will be a shame to lose a man of his calibre, but he must be discharged under canon law.
I still am struggling to understand quite what all the fuss is about. Yes I agree, posing with an automatic rifle is pretty juvenile, but posting it to your personal facebook profile page does not really sound all that offensive to me.

How does it rule this guy out as a magistrate?

And, you know, when it comes to politicians and guns, what are your thoughts on this photo?

Can't you see, it is not the holding of just a gun, but his reasoning to have a photo taken and then to post it as his profile picture.

And if you must introduce race/religion etc, then yes that makes it even more inappropriate especially when one considers similar photos we have seen of terrorists and killers within our midst also holding guns.

Perhaps this guy also thought it a good idea

Now we are getting to it, I think.

What did you think of the picture I posted a link to, AoG?
