Typical Americans. The slightest hint of a humanitarian crisis and they can't wait to get stuck in and 'save some ass'. Who elected them the world's 'ambulance service?' Did we get a vote?
What a surprise, willing lapdog, the UK is only to glad to wag it's tail along with the other western cronies.
Let's face it, this is about oil. the only reason they are sending planes, aircraft carriers and troops is to prop up their arms industry. Did they think we would be fooled into not seeing the significance of the phillipines strategic proximity to china?
What about an exit strategy? has anyone given that any thought? At this rate we could be re-building infrastructure, schools and hospitals for years to come, all at the expense of western taxpayers.
When are we in the west going to start listening to the likes of george galloway and stop meddling in the internal affairs of other countries?
When are we going to stop getting involved? Bloody Americans and their western allies!
This is typically an anti American, anti British post.
I salute America for what they are doing to help all those poor people of the Philippines and also feel proud that Britain is not trailing too far behind, in giving this humanitarian aid.
I may have missed it but I have not heard any response from Europe yet.
As regards agreeing with George Galloway, listen to what he says regarding Israel and Iran, and see if you still agree with him.
He's the point mikey.
(edit a couple of words from the first paragraph)
Typical americans. The slightest hint of a conflict and they can't wait to get stuck in and 'kick some ass'. Who elected them the world's 'police force?' Did we get a vote?
I think DoctoDB is trying to make a point that people *** off the Americans for interfering militarilly but are awfully grateful to take their aid in a crisis.
It's the logic of a 4 year old of course to attempt to link the two.
A bit similar perhaps to arguing that 'Yes Jimmy Saville was a serial paedophile and abuser but you were all gratefull for his fund raising weren't you'
Maybe I'm misinterpreting his 'satire' because it seems pretty dim put like that if that's the point he's trying to make
You have a weird sense of humour, doctorb. This is not satire, it's just using a very tragic situation to make some kind of attempt to imitate the Frankie Boyles of this world. Pathetic.
The OP could be a take on American websites and media that hail America as the saviour of the world and "look how good we are!", but on here it reads like some of the stuff that gets posted about 'septics' and ' Americans' and is not detectable as satire .
jno...no arguement from me re aircraft carriers. This government has also abandoned all its planes that are capable of taking off and landing on aircraft carriers...a remarkably daft decision. I am firmly in the "speak softly but carry a big stick" camp, when it comes to military things !
doctordb - I speak as one who has had the meaning of a post misunderstood because the printed word does not always convey a sense of irony / satire as it is intended.
On re-reading, i can see that your post is intended to be ironic, but irony is a tricky concept to assess in print.
Best bet for the future? Broad stokes.
Dial down the subtlety - your intended humour is missing its target by some miles.
No use castigating people for not understanding you - communication is the responsibility of the poster.
Andy...agree with you 100%. As it looks that this post is an attempt at satire, than its a very attempt indeed. I hope nobody is reading this in the Philippines....minds you, unless they have very good batteries, its unlikely that they would be able to.
