A rather masterful conclusion to the enigma, my dear Sandy; and with the use of only one clue to boot.

Elasticated sides then sandy ?, maybe a kid or someone went to kick a ball or can and the boot came off with the momentum of the kick.
Easy....

It all depends on the alcohol consumed.
If it was round my way I would say more than likely a fight.

Part of the Cast of FOOTLOOSE
It isn't Rolfs spare one is it ( Jake The Peg ).
Perhaps someone threw it at a yowling cat, or something.
Something seem to be afoot, sandy. Firstly you stumble upon an abandoned bicycle mirror adjacent to the tow-path, and secondly you espy a solitary boot lurking atop a wall. Somebody is leaving a trail of clues for you. They presage a mystery (ala P D James) penned by S Roe coming to fruition in the near future:)
Elementary my dear stewey.
Stewey, I love the way you write. I know I've said it before and I shall probably say it again.

//Elementary// Is that canal related tony?
Brilliant, Baldric!
Sure is Baldric, stewey said abandoned bicycle mirror adjacent to the tow path, so I recon that the missing Chelsea boot owner fell in the cut !.

Half-cut, eh!
cut-throat!
(Coughs, mutters, blushes and hides....)

Er, yes, ^^^^^ we know, and your point is?
Shoota, I think it was a play on words.
Perhaps they lost two but only one has been found?
Or Three even, if it belongs to Rolf, shoota.

Baldric

Half-cut, eh!

Oi, stop barging in Baldric ;-)
