Is hoping to gain by this.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2353250/Channel-4-broadcast-daily-Muslim-prayer-Ramadan-month.html

I'm curious as to why they are doing this. I would imagine that most Muslims would already have something in place and would also presume judging by some of the comments (Yes I know it's the Mail but their readers are viewers too)
that this will alienate some.
So I can only see a lose/lose situation here.
Any thoughts?

I'd be rather more concerned about the entire channel dedicated to Christianity that is God TV, which yesterday had a series of programmes dedicated to rubbishing Science in favour of Creationism. That's far more disturbing, frankly, that prayers at 3am that most of the Target audience already have covered anyhow.

Perhaps we should now call it "Channel 4 the Muslims"?
we have a young lad at wortk on work experience, he's 14, he starts fasting this week at 2.30am every day until the evening. That will be why the praying starts so early, it's to give them strength to get through thew day I suppose, poor lad will be stacking and pricing chocolate half the time lol

"Perhaps we should now call it "Channel 4 the Muslims"

Err...why?

/// I'm sure you, like me, are aware that The latest data from 2006 suggests that Asian-owned businesses make up around 13 per cent of all London businesses and provide jobs to around 210,000 persons. ///

And I am sure you, like me, are aware that not all Asians are Muslim.
AOG

So who were you referring to when you said that they don't have to get up for work in the morning?

Was that a slur against Muslims...or Asians?
why should we call C4 the muslims?

as far as i can see a very small percentage of their programming is religious, so what if they are calling attention to ramadan, i don't see what the fuss is about

Interesting to read some of the supportive comments, I wonder if there would have been so supportive it it was regarding something about Christianity?

I say this because Christianity gets such a thrashing on AB.
"Christianity gets such a trashing on AB."

Hmm... in my opinion Islam gets far more of a trashing than Christianity at the moment, or perhaps they get trashed equally. I think it might be just your perspective that says Christianity is attacked for more -- if you are a Christian you might notice that more?
AOG, it makes a change from the Daily Service on Radio 4 and "Thought for the Day" and the requirement, still in force, for such "God Slots" to be broadcast by the BBC
i don't recall giving songs of praise a thrashing

AOG

Are you trying to suggest that Christianity gets the same amount of trashing that Islam does on AB?

Are you...serious?

But back to my earlier question - who were you slurring? Asians or Muslims? If it was Muslims whom you are painting as workshy - why?

Is there a higher percentage of Muslims seeking Jobseekers' Allowance than other ethnic minorities, and white people?
Question Author
Absolutely agree Jim. Anyway the OP was not about bashing anybody. I was just curious as to why Channel 4 were doing it. As I would have been if they had started to broadcast Christian based programs.

Since this thread is regarding Muslims I would have thought that would have been obvious, so there was no need for you to bring the rest of Asians into the discussion.

I know you might be suffering from post holiday blues but surely you haven't lost your humorous side as well?

My comment regarding 'Muslims' getting up for 'work' was not a 'slur' as you put it, but it was just supposed to be humorous.
AOG, do you not listen to Songs of Praise, one of the so-called "God Slots" ? Or to the Daily Service? Or do you just reserve your imagination for attacking Islam, when there is one daily broadcast at 3 a.m. for a month, on one of the lesser channels?
chrisgel, is it just of interest to you because it is Channel 4 doing it, and you wonder why that channel is doing it? There are already, and by requirement in their Charter, programmes of Christianity on the BBC

Muslims are not ethnic minorities, but Pakistanis and Nigerians etc are, and are you not aware that you can also get white Muslims?
Humorous and sarcastic all in one day!!
Just noticed a bit of law. The preamble to Channel 4's remit, by virtue of the Communications Act 2003 , includes the provision that it shall appeal to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society.

This broadcast fits in with that.

I am not complaining about the lack or even the amount of religious coverage, my comment was about the different amount of support that Christianity gets from the atheists on AB compared to that shown by them towards Islam, your insulting so called "God Slots" is a prime example, would you dare to put "Allah Slots" or even attempt to insult the Islamic faith?
