French Jazz

Can anyone recommend a cd of French Jazz. On a visit to Cardiff recently I was thourougly entertained by a group of French Jazz musicians playing at a food festival and would love an album of similar music.

The two most famous French jazz players were Django Reinhardt (guitar)

So an album by either or both of them, or by the group (maybe a little dated for you?) might do.

btw, if you have Spotify there are hundreds of tracks on there by Django and the Hot Club de France (and other jazz bands).

Thanks for that. Yes that is the style of music that I'm interested in and will probably buy a Hot Club de France album, but I did wonder if anyone knew of any modern day artists that play in that style.
Madeleine Peyroux is a singer that I admire and she almost fits the bill. Thanks VHG for your help.

This style of music is often called Gypsy Jazz or Gypsy Swing if that helps you find it on Amazon or whatever.

being a fan of this genre myself and living in france I know that their are lots of bands but they don't seem to produce much in the way of CDs. There is a group in the UK who are based around southampton and are very good called 'louche manouche' loosely translatesas 'idle layabout' You can find them on the web under their name and find out where their gigs are.

saw a great french jazz/hip hop fusion combo in a pub in Cornwall, call 'Ca'
bought all their promo CD's from them there and then!! A bit more 'urban' than pure jazz though.
