I lost my purse about 4.50pm just before dark. Tried to find it but no luck. Spent time cancelling debit and credit cards and other details. Made me realise how much more secure Tesco Clubcard points are. They send us quarterly vouchers by mail. Anyone can take your points on Nectar or Boots by just having the card.

No idea BEAC, I got no explanation. I thought you had to have the card to use the points so I'm not sure how it was done. Nothing's safe these days!

I had 15000 points 'stolen' from my Nectar card at Argos South Ruislip, the card was in my purse at the time and I live in Bedfordshire, so they don't even have to have the card! After 28 days for them to investigate, and several very frustrating phone calls, a Nectar have just refunded the points back to me.
Shows how much more secure credit and debit cards are, too. If you had cash in your purse you wouldn't get it back unless an honest person found it.

Hi Margo, Happy to learn you got the points returned. Any idea how someone was able to do that?
Could it have been via a till receipt left at the check-out for a previous purchase ?

SirOracle - I never leave receipts behind, I always put them in my purse to check when I get home. That was how I realised that some points had gone missing.i usually let them build to to do a big Christmas shop.

Save mine for December, too. Anyone had trouble with Boots?
OK Margo....but what do you with your receipts after you have checked them at home.?

Put them in the recycling or shred them.?
I shred everything. I did try asking how it had been done, but it's a call centre in India - need I say more!

Margo, yours could have been just a simple case of someone entering a wrong card number, only takes one wrong digit and your card gets debited instead of theirs (possibly)
But the nectar cards are read by a machine, Baldric

I do the same as you Margot. Despite the fact that I am not computer literate (?) I am careful. (usually). Drives my daughter and grandsons mad that I do not like the mobile phone

Ah, thanks Sibs, I've never seen one, think OH has mentioned them (??)
I always thought you had to use the actual card to redeem but apparently you can do it on-line. I posted in spam and scams about this on 24th October and Buenchico provided some useful links. Argos seems to be a prime target for these fraudsters.
I am completely baffled as to how anyone can spend Nectar points without being in possession of the Card or having knowledge of the card's number.

Spending points at Argos involves swiping the card at the till.

Hans.
Margo .....Perhaps your computer has been hacked.

Does Nectar send you updates via your email telling you how many points you have accrued, and their value etc. ?
SirOracle - no I've never received an email from Nectar as I told them I did not wish to receive them. A fact which they quoted to me during my last phone call to them querying why they had not emailed my with the results of their enquirer into the theft. It's a mystery, suffice to say I don't think I will be accumulating points in future!
It is indeed a mystery Margo.

I can only suggest that you get Retrocop on the job to resolve matters for you. :-)
:)
